Photo: Offa's Dyke Cottage Bed and Breakfast

Montgomery sits at the foot of the mid-Wales hills, close enough to Oswestry for market days yet surrounded by open farmland and walking routes. Offa's Dyke Cottage occupies a smallholding here, with four guests sleeping across two double bedrooms and sharing a bathroom with bath and shower. The whole place is yours alone.

Ground floor living spreads across an open-plan room with a wood-burning stove, dining area and kitchen equipped for proper cooking—electric hob and oven, proper fridge and freezer space, washing machine included. A conservatory with French doors opens onto a patio and garden where you can sit out; the owners keep Shetland ponies, hens and horses on the land, which children tend to enjoy spotting. Electricity, wifi and all bed linen and towels come as standard, and you'll find a welcome pack waiting.

The Offa's Dyke Path runs nearby for serious walkers. The Ceiriog Valley, Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall, Lake Vyrnwy and Chirk Castle are within reach for a day out. If you're bringing bikes, surfboards or kayaks, there's dedicated storage on site. Three cars can park in the grounds. No smoking inside.

Fantastic five star stay - a true gem. Wonderful host who has thought of everything and more, and provided wonderful meals. It's in a beautiful place and there are lovely places to rest after a long day's walk. Fabulous views. Highly recommended

We LOVED our stay here so much. The hosts are exceptional. We stayed in the twin room and there was a BATH with radox muscle soak! The views are amazing, the beds super comfy, lots of extra treats in the room on arrival and lovely dinner, breakfast and packed lunch. Cannot rate highly enough

A perfect one nights stay directly on the Offa's Dyke Path. The property is stunning. One of the nicest B&B's we have stayed in - and we have stayed in a lot! A cooked breakfast is included. As the location is a little remote if walking there, the owner will provide evening meals if required but there is also Mellington Hall, just 1/2 mile further along the trail. There's even a good helping of sherry waiting in your room!

Superb B&B. Everything top notch, from quality and cleanliness, food, ambience and friendliness of Diane and Adrian (our hosts). The views of the garden, fish ponds and countryside from the sun room are amazing. The sitting/TV room was very relaxing. First stayed in March whilst walking Offa's Dyke with my cousin. Loved it so much, I stayed again in April with my wife (relaxing rather than walking).
