Mendip

Somerset

Photo: Google Maps

The Mendips rise steeply above Cheddar Gorge, an area of limestone hills, caves and walking trails that draw people back year after year. Mendip sits on a working farm here, high enough to catch views across the landscape. The farm keeps alpacas, goats and guinea pigs—animals roam the fields and sometimes visit. A children's play area is shared with other properties on the farm, and there's a courtyard with seating outside.

Inside, the ground floor is one open space with kitchen, dining and living areas flowing together. The kitchen has an electric oven, induction hob, dishwasher and all the usual appliances; a woodburner provides heating through the colder months. Three bedrooms sleep six: one kingsize with its own walk-in shower and toilet, one double, and one with two singles. The main bathroom has a bath and separate shower cubicle. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included. A cot and highchair are available if you ask. Private parking fits two cars on site, and the house sits back from the road in a quiet spot.

Wells Cathedral and Glastonbury Tor are close by, Cheddar Caves a few miles away, and the coast at Weston-super-Mare within reach. Bath is an hour's drive. Walkers will find the hills immediately accessible, and the area supports badgers, deer and a wide range of birds. No smoking inside the property.
