The Coop

Photo: The Coop

Ilminster sits at the foot of the Blackdown Hills, where footpaths lead through Combe St Nicholas and up into Neroche Forest. The area draws walkers year-round, with routes to Staple Hill offering wide views across Somerset. Bluebell Woods and scattered farmland make this quiet corner of the county good for spotting deer and buzzards, or simply moving slowly through the landscape.

The Coop is a handcrafted shepherd's hut on a private paddock, sleeping two in a double bed. The interior combines living, dining and kitchen areas in an open plan, with an electric stove for warmth. You get a kitchenette for cooking, a cubicle shower and toilet, and essentials like bed linen, towels and wi-fi included. An enclosed patio with furniture sits outside; there is private parking for two cars and a two-person hot tub. The entrance has six steps. Smoking is not permitted.

Ilminster's market town centre, with its independent cafes and historic high street, is a short drive away. The hut works well for couples wanting countryside quiet without isolation.

My husband and I have just come back from the most beautiful two nights at The Coop! Finding the shepherds hut is easy and we were greeted by the most amazing views. Our stay was so relaxing, The Coop has everything you need whether it’s for 2 days or a week and the location is so peaceful. The shepherds hut itself is gorgeous, modern with a country home feel, excellent bathroom facilities with great water pressure and very hot! The mattress and bedding were all very comfortable, tv and great Wi-Fi. We had an excellent time relaxing in the hot tub in the sunshine and in the evenings beneath the stars! Thank you so much for having us and we can’t wait to come back in February!

Our stay at Coop was nothing short of amazing and incredibly tranquil. We booked it for a 40th birthday celebration, and it could not have been a more perfect weekend. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that attention to detail is a top priority here. The entire place was spotless, and so beautiful. What truly sets this place apart, though, is the hospitality absolutely nothing was too much trouble, and the personal touches made us feel so welcome and celebrated. The hot tub was a massive highlight and the perfect way to unwind. This place is a real hidden gem, the views, the peace and the donkeys were perfection and made for an amazing romantic getaway, We would go back in a heartbeat! Highly recommended.

We had a fabulous time away for a few days. The area is nice and private and the views from The Coop are stunning. The Coop itself has everything and more you need such a shower gel and shampoo to lots of board games. We would definitely come back here again. Thank you again for the lovely stay!!
