🏡 Self-Catering Cottage

The Old Priory Cottage

Dunster sits within Exmoor National Park, its stone village overlooking the Bristol Channel coast and anchored by the castle that rises above the high street. The Old Priory Cottage occupies what was once a small Benedictine monastery, established in the 12th century and still physically connected to St George's Church. Medieval beams and a 14th-century fireplace survive in the rooms, while the memorial garden outside marks where the priory's cloisters once stood. The setting combines genuine history with the practical advantage of having shops, pubs and a beach village atmosphere within easy walking distance.

The cottage itself sleeps four across two bedrooms: a king on the ground floor with an ensuite shower, and two singles upstairs served by a separate bathroom with a bath. Downstairs, the living room has a woodburner and the kitchen/dining space holds the usual appliances for self-catering. Wi-Fi, heating, bed linen and towels are all provided. There is parking on site and a small enclosed courtyard with a garden and patio; a larger lawned garden is shared with the owner. Children under 12 are not accommodated, and the property is non-smoking.

This is somewhere to stay if you want to explore the coast and moorland from a village base, or simply to spend time among Exmoor's walking routes. The castle grounds are nearby for visitors; St George's Church and its public gardens are quite literally next door.
