About Southwold Camping and Caravan Site
Run by East Suffolk Council, this site occupies a quiet corner of Southwold on Ferry Road, tucked between the River Blyth and the town's golf course, and about a fifteen-minute walk from the High Street. Its great strength is simply its location: campers can leave the car for the whole stay and walk to the beach, the harbour's fish huts and the pier, or follow the riverside path round to the seasonal rowing ferry across to Walberswick.
Pitches are a mix of grass and hard-standing for tents, touring caravans and motorhomes, with electric hook-up available on the hard-standing pitches. The site is straightforward rather than resort-like – no shop, pool or organised entertainment – but the modern shower and toilet blocks are kept spotlessly clean throughout the season with plenty of hot water, and the clearly marked pitches make settling in straightforward. Prices can feel a little steep, though the proximity to town and beach goes some way to justifying the premium. Dogs are welcome throughout, making it a popular choice for walkers heading out along the coastal path.
Booking well ahead is essential for the school summer holidays, but availability opens up considerably in spring and autumn, when the surrounding heath and marshes are at their best for birdwatching.

What visitors say
This caravan park is amazing. The staff are very friendly. It is close to the beach and town. The pitches are clearly marked and signs to get you to the right area. The toilets and shower blocks are bright, modern and extremely clean. Will definitely stay here again

When we pulled onto the site in our motorhome we had to drive through the static park this was like a scene from Chernobyl it looked like it'd been abandoned in a hurry, then to our pitch there was a sign saying they encouraged wild growth for the bees but the thistles on our pitch were vicious you couldn't even walk around in flip flops let alone barefoot, the staff were good the location was good the facilities were poor such a shame as Southwold is lovely

Great location, efficient check in but unfortunately thereafter a poor experience. We’ve visited a number of times over the last few years and always found the site to be tidy and well managed. This time the site was very tired. Thistles and stinging nettles abounded along with some vague info about leaving the growth for the bees. Not great for us in flip flops and horrible for the little dogs. Unfortunately a campsite is only ever as good as your fellow campers and unfortunately during our stay a selfish, inconsiderate, large group decided to party until late, very loudly. I don’t think this would have happened on a club site, rules are generally enforced. At Southwold rules around quiet times and consideration for others are only suggestions. We left early and won’t be back.

Staff were lovely, toilets and showers clean and not once did I have to queue for either. A stones through from the beach and a short walk to pubs and the town.
