About Whispering Pine Lodge

Whispering Pine Lodge suits travellers who want the Highlands by day and proper comfort by night. Set on Loch Lochy near Spean Bridge, with Ben Nevis adding walking and climbing interest close by, it works well for hikers, cyclists and anyone touring the area who doesn't want to rough it once the boots come off.

The 18 rooms are en-suite and well kept, many looking out over the loch, with family rooms and air conditioning available and drinks provided in-room. The restaurant serves a mix of Scottish and Indian dishes, from shish tawook to butter chicken, and there's a bar, packed lunches for the day's outing, and kids' meals for family stays. After a day outdoors, the hot tub and sauna are the main draw, and staff are consistently attentive and helpful.

Beyond the lodge itself there's fishing, horse riding, cycling and walking routes nearby, plus pubs and restaurants within reach for evenings out. The property also hosts weddings, with a bridal suite and meeting rooms on offer, and pets are welcome. Free on-site parking makes it a straightforward base for exploring Spean Bridge and the wider loch and mountain landscape around it.

My friend and I had a lovely stay here as a base for hiking in the area. The hospitality was great from the start, accommodating my request for a non street-facing room with an upgrade to a lake-view room. They organized a fishing guide for us, Ruaridh, who was amazing—so friendly and lots of knowledge of Scottish history and culture. We caught a sea trout! The restaurant menu has all the Scottish classics but we enjoyed their Indian specials the most, and our server Ravi was kind and jolly both evenings. Overall the hotel is charmingly designed for a quintessential Scottish highlands feel, clean and comfortable.

Overall we had a nice experience. The food was great, location beautiful. I only have one complaint. When we went to the restaurant in the morning, there was a beautiful open table facing the lake. We asked if we could sit there and the server said no it was a table for four. He then proceeded to seat us at a table for four in the row behind. At first, I was confused because it didn't make any sense and it seemed rather rude. And then realized that the front table by the lake was "set for a table of four", meaning he didn't want to move the plates in order for us to sit there. So my husband and I sat there and looked at this empty table the entire time for breakfast because he just didn't want to move the plates or cups so we could sit at the table that we preferred during our vacation at a hotel that we were paying to stay at.... This is a very simple training issue. Hospitality is serving the people that come to stay with you. The entire front row tables had two people sitting at them, but this was the only table "set for four". I just found it to be incredibly rude. Again it's a minor issue overall because the hotel was great. It just seems silly that this person didn't realize their main commitment in their job is to serve their guests, not tell them no when they don't have to.

We didn't stay at the hotel, though when we return to the Highlands, we're definitely booking this lodge! We had dinner there twice - first, by accident, second time, because we couldn't stop talking about the place! :D Hard to believe that such an outstanding chef could be found at such a remote location! Superb experience, and absolutely the best garlic nan I've had anywhere in the world, no exaggeration... Food simply to die for, exemplary service with a friendly twist, unbeatable views of Loch Lochy, etc. Very cosmopolitan clientele! Not to be missed.

We had a wonderful stay here! The rooms are spacious (our toddler had enough space to play and explore), the views are stunning and the food is absolutely delicious (do get the Indian food, you won't be sorry!). But what makes it really special is the hospitality of the staff. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Special shoutout to Ravi whose enthousiastic vibe made our stay one to remember.
