Tiny woodland campsite near Stock with composting toilets and open fires, but no hot water or shower facilities.
About Stuarts Wood Camping
Stuarts Wood Camping is a pop-up campsite in Essex forest near Stock, with just a handful of tent pitches. It is genuinely remote and peaceful, positioned for wild camping rather than the usual touring-park experience. The site sits on a working farm.
Facilities are minimal: there are showers and a washing-up area, but no hot water. Toilets are composting. What sets this place apart is the freedom it offers—campfires and barbecues are allowed, and the isolation means you get genuine quiet. Single-sex groups are welcome, and motorcyclists will find it straightforward. Dogs and pets are not permitted. A shop is nearby for supplies, and fishing is available locally.
This suits people after basic, back-to-nature camping rather than comfort. It is not the site for anyone who needs hot showers or a long list of amenities.

What visitors say
This campsite was always a 'pop-up' and has recently closed for a couple of years. It's now back open, part time, and whilst not as pristine as Ken and Sonya previously built it up to be it remains a gorgeous spot and Bryony who is now running it is doing a superb job and is always on hand for whatever you need. Plots are allocated on arrival on a first come first served basis so if you want one of the more secluded pitches at the top of the site arrive early! The bottom of the site is a little more open plan (albeit still woodland) and includes a communal fire area. Do note this is a' back to basics' / 'nearly wild' campsite so don't expect any facilities beyond a couple of compost loos and some taps! You park at the farm then wheelbarrow your stuff into the woods. It is lovely here and I will be back again ❤️

Me and my partner stayed here for a night last year before heading up to a vegan festival. We didn't know what to expect, but it turned out to be the most beautiful place with the most warming reception from the lovely couple who run it. It was so peaceful and the exact type of thing we were looking for. The nature was stunning and the individual little pitches made in the woodland are all unique and offer something different. Not a bad word to say about this place and we're hoping to get to stay here again this year!

Absolutely lovely little gem of a campsite that's actually well spaced out between pitches so you feel you have your own private space. So peaceful and really relaxed awesome atmosphere will definitely become a regular stay here. The scenery and location staff are absolutely spot on 👌 feels like you're right out in the countryside a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of town/city life ! A joy to stay thank you 😎

Absolute love this place. Firstly it’s so close to east London for a quick friday post work getaway, but feels like miles from a city. Such friendly and welcome hosts. Everyone has their own private unique little spots that have been carved out of the woods. And a communal bonfire is lit most nights in the centre of it all. This is definitely a back to basics wild camping vibe. As long as you don’t come expecting a hot shower and electric hook up, you will be happy campers indeed. More beautiful than the pictures suggest. A little secret I don’t want you all to know about 😉
