What visitors say
I’ve been wanting to visit Grime’s Graves for years, always curious about what was there, but it seemed to be closed for upgrades every time I checked. Today, I happened to be driving past, saw it was finally open, and decided to stop in on a whim… and I’m glad I did! The visit exceeded my expectations. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and Jake was genuinely enthusiastic, which made a huge difference! The information throughout the site was presented clearly and thoroughly. I learned so much and found myself completely absorbed. I ended up spending a good hour and a half exploring. One of the highlights was being able to take a small piece of flint home as a memento, it felt like taking a tangible piece of history with me. If you’ve ever been curious about this Neolithic flint site, I recommend a visit. It’s fascinating, and well-run.

We cycled from where we were staying. When we arrived we were met by enthusiastic staff, very pleasant. The neolithic flint mine was very interesting and very informative. We then had a walk around the site and to all the information boards which made for some interesting reading. Throughly enjoyed our visit

The site is fascinating. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, and they made the history of the flint mines easy to understand, even for younger visitors. Climbing down into the mine was definitely the highlight, the kids thought it was an adventure, and it gave us all a real sense of how incredible the Neolithic miners’ work must have been. The outdoor space is also great for exploring and running around, which made it a perfect balance of learning and fun.

Small but interesting place to visit. There is a small visitors centre which has some interesting bits in it - we especially liked the collect of flints and tools that we could handle. There is a short walk around the very odd landscape following coloured posts which took less than 15 minutes. We did go down pit 1 which was novel but perhaps a little underwhelming. There is a projection show with voice over but it was hard to hear and watch in a small space with other people coming in and out. This perhaps would have been better in separate space on the surface so we could have watched it properly. Only children aged 7 and over are allowed down the pit, for insurance reasons we were told. In reality our kids would have managed it well before the age of 7 whereas many adults would probably struggle with how steep the ladder is! The staff at the main welcome desk in the visitor centre were welcoming and helpful. Unfortunately the lady at the top of the pit (American accent?) wasn't in the same mood, and was quite rude in telling my daughter that she didn't look 7 because she was too short. On returning our helmets to her on the way out she didn't even acknowledge us.

People say this historical landmark offers a unique opportunity to explore ancient flint mines and learn about Neolithic mining techniques. They also highlight the informative exhibition, the friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the fun experience of descending into a mine shaft.
Some reviews mention the mine can be small.
