Cefn Gorwydd Cottages - Ty Ysgubor

Ty Ysgubor is a stone cottage with character, double-glazed throughout and furnished to a high standard. Beamed ceilings in the open-plan living and dining room give it genuine age and warmth; the electric fire sits in a stone fireplace, and quarry tiles run across the floor. Upstairs, both bedrooms have sloping ceilings and calming decoration—the double is 4ft 6in and the single 3ft—with a shower cubicle alongside. The kitchen is fully fitted for cooking a proper meal, and essentials like bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included.

The cottage sits on 30 acres within reach of the Gower Peninsula, where rolling countryside meets miles of unspoilt coastline. You have private parking on site and access to shared facilities: a games room with table tennis and pool, plus a large garden with seating and lawn. A laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer is available. A cycle track nearby leads towards the Mumbles, where the lighthouse and lifeboat station face the water; the peninsula itself has sandy beaches backed by dunes, rock pools, and the coastal path climbing to cliff-top views. Inland, moorland holds sheep and Gower ponies. At Penclawdd, 3 miles away, horse-drawn carts still rake cockles from the mudflats at low tide. No smoking in the cottage.

My wife, 2 young children and I, had never been to this area before. We'd heard it was beautiful and wanted to ensure we booked a nice cottage for the stay, and boy we struck gold. The location was on a farm, with some lovely animals nearby, and had the quietness of being rural, but also there were shops within walking distance. The cottage was situated perfectly to visit before North and South coasts. We mainly done South as were advised better for children. The cottage itself was lovely. Had plenty of character, all the facilities you'd expect (and more). Plenty of space for the 4 of us too. Reliable WiFi (although we don't let WiFi determine our choices of where to holiday). Car parking is private and right outside the cottage. Games room round the side too with table tennis and a pool table. The biggest stand out for us was the host - David. He lives in the house just down the way, and has ample knowledge of the area and makes you feel at home straight away. He grew up nearby so there's little he doesn't know. He was super responsive the 1 occasion where we needed him to move a vehicle for us, which gave us comfort he was nearby too. Honestly cannot thank David enough. Overall this HAS to get 5 stars from us.

The cottage we stayed in was perfect for what we needed. It is clean and comfortable and the host was friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for trips out on the Gower with no where being more than half an hours drive, even Rosilli Beach at the far end. The only problem the cottage has is that we don't own it!
