Tir Cethin Farm - Y Llaethdy

Photo: Bernhard Hofmann

Three Crosses sits at the gateway to Gower, and from Tir Cethin Farm – Y Llaethdy you can reach the peninsula's beaches, coastal paths and rural villages within minutes. The area draws people for walking, swimming and exploring coves; the farm itself occupies peaceful farmland where you have room to move and space to relax between expeditions.

The conversion is a stone barn arranged over two floors. Downstairs, an open-plan living space runs the length of the ground floor, with a wood-burning stove, a fully equipped kitchen (electric oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine), and doors onto the garden. A bathroom with bath sits on this level. Upstairs are three bedrooms: two with zip-and-link super king beds that split into singles if needed, and one with two single beds. A shower room serves the upper floor. The essentials – electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wi-fi – are covered, along with initial fuel for the stove. A wood-fired hot tub for four sits in the back garden, which also has a children's play area shared with other properties on the farm, and space to sit out. There is parking for four cars on-site. No smoking inside.

The setup suits families and groups of friends. Children will find room to play; adults can settle into the kitchen or by the fire. For anyone wanting Gower's coastline and landscapes without committing to a caravan or tent, this works well as a base.

A wonderfully quiet place just a few miles outside Swansea. It's hard to believe you're that close to Swansea, Mumbles, and so many other great places to visit on Gower because you feel as if you're miles from any town. The barn conversion is very well done, with beautiful Oak frame construction, high end design in the bathrooms and kitchen. Plenty of space for a large family or two couples with up to three kids between them. More than enough leather sofas to relax on after your dinner (or before) and enjoy the glow of the very efficient and modern fireplace or watch TV or DVDs. The beds are nice and firm (like new) without being hard, and the sheets are wonderfully smooth and soft. I particularly adore the snazzy pillow and foot throw material design on the beds that is carried up to the blinds in the two main bedrooms because it reminds me of boiled sweets. You're sure to get a really good night's rest in the darkness and quiet of the countryside. I good size porch area means walking boots, jackets, and other outdoor gear can stay out of your living area. It's all well thought out and designed. All the necessary conveniences are available from iron and ironing board to dishwasher and washing machine. We had the pleasure of meeting the owners on our last visit (our second time). I have no doubt we'll be back again and look forward to it already, having only just returned home.
