Staff were great, my son is doing his dissertation on star forts so this was an ideal place to take him. Easy parking and quiet withlotsof interesting artillery pieces. No activities for young children, but plenty of space to run around on and for picnics, plus a gift shop. Would recommend as a good place to go for 2 to 3 hours, but it is rather niche, so may need an interest in this type of history to merit the visit, for us it was just what we were looking for.

Its a fascinating place to visit, especially if you are interested in the war years. Theres loads to explore, there's parking and a shop, were you can purchase a range of gifts, sweets and drink, its a great way to spend a few hours.

Hidden gem! Tucked behind an industrial estate, this fortress is easy to miss but absolutely worth finding. Fascinating history—from Henry VIII to WWII. The star-shaped design, water moats, and underground magazines are brilliantly preserved. Loved exploring the gun emplacements and tunnels. Great views across the Thames too. Don't judge it by its surroundings—this is a genuine piece of English history!
