Badgells Wood Camping
White Horse Rd, Harvel, Meopham DA13 0UF, UK
Off-grid woodland camping in the Kent Downs, around 13 miles from Rochester
About Badgells Wood Camping
Tucked into Whitehorse Wood on the Birling Estate, Badgells Wood offers properly secluded camping in 250 acres of designated wildlife habitat on the North Kent Downs. Pitches are individually sited among the trees rather than lined up in rows, each with its own fire pit, giving families and groups genuine privacy under the canopy. Hot showers and composting toilets are provided, and the site welcomes tents, pre-erected bell tents, and motorhomes that can be driven in and parked up. An on-site bushcraft school runs archery and campfire cooking sessions for anyone after structured activities.
There's no WiFi or mobile signal, which regulars tend to view as a feature rather than a failing. The wood saw service as a British Army pre-officer cadet training camp during the Second World War; today it's a quiet, low-key alternative to Kent's larger holiday parks, best suited to campers content to forgo a shop or pool in exchange for genuine seclusion. Rochester Castle and Cathedral lie around half an hour's drive away.

What visitors say
I loved my experience at this camp ground so much that I returned 3 weeks after and will definitely go back again! The staff are all friendly, welcoming and truly care about the woodland, it’s like you’ve stepped back in time when people had time to chat. The facilities are clean, well located and we found it very relaxing because the pitches are laid out in such a way that there is privacy and it feels like you’re secluded! We enjoyed the pizza and coffee they had onsite too. If you’re looking for somewhere not too far from London, with a couple of good walks, forest feel then this is the place!

We had a really lovely time here in these beautiful woods. Really well thought out facilities and pitch set ups. We went on some lovely walks in the woods and surrounding area. We stayed during a quite period so didn't get to check out all the activities this time, but we'll definitely be coming back to experience the place in full flow!

We go there every year without fail. The space between pitches is ideal, privacy is great, all the facilities are there for a luxury feeling almost wild camping experience. Car is required as many outside amenities are not closeby. Also dont expect to have charging points for your phones - its unplugged :)

A lovely, tranquil place to camp (or glamping) in Kent. Facilities are basic (drop toilet with saw dust, no electric in the bell tent) but this was perfect for us to switch off and enjoy the nature around us. Bell tent glamping was super cute with our own little garden area to sit in and have a fire. The activities on site are great for families - busy craft, open air cinema, archery, yoga, playground. Overall a fantastic place to visit
