This 19th-century cottage sits on the Torridge Estuary near Bideford, with the water lapping at its grounds and views from every level. The building has been updated inside while keeping its character—three storeys contain a kingsize bedroom on the top floor, a double and bunk beds on the first, and a ground-floor bedroom opening onto one of two balconies. There's also a bathroom with bath and shower, plus a separate wet room upstairs. The open-plan ground floor holds the kitchen, dining and living spaces, all connected to a decked roof terrace and private balcony where the estuary becomes the focal point.
The kitchen is equipped for cooking proper meals: electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher and microwave. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included. One dog can stay free. The position on the water means high tide brings the chance to crab from the balcony edge, and there's a public car park nearby. Walking distance reaches Appledore village and its quay, with cafés, pubs and shops; the ferry across the estuary heads towards Instow. Smoking is not permitted inside.

Location was good, and kids enjoyed crabbing off the balcony. However it is looking a bit tired in places and well due a deep clean and paint in some areas. Parking was a pain and the local car park was often full (even with a week pass). There are some misleading pics of the 3rd bunk bedroom which was poor with rock hard mattresses. One of us slept on the sofa it was that rough. Not the quietest tranquil area, more so with piledriving and development ongoing 75metres away (we have videos of this and were blagged when asked prior to arrival). Neighbours a bit anti tourists too I reckon. Other issues in this ‘luxury premium’ property which reduce it to 3* accommodation at best:- None functional coffee machine. Dangerous iron (bare exposed cable). Bleach both moldy bathrooms (£1 so cheap to do). Ants in lounge at times. Leak under sink (dog bowl is not a fix). Dog hairs and sand in 2nd flr bedding and top bunk. Some tired décor/paint. Auto lights and no fire door shade a pain at night. Dodgy toaster (again cheap to replace).

Our second time staying here with our 2 boys - we absolutely love the view and crabbing when the tide comes in. The kitchen has been updated and new sofa since our last stay. We always enjoy our stay in appledore. Take the risk of parking outside generally okay however the parking man does come around if you’re not out early enough.

IS THIS MAN FOR REAL ! Normally we would just accept damage and get the item replaced without further question, but with the amount of accusations being leveled at us, we decided to investigate it further. Under normal operation, these units would not fail unless they are sprayed with water. We asked our handyman to investigate this. He reported back, that if the hand shower was stretched out of the shower cubical it is just possible to spray the wall with water. Obviously during normal use this would never occur, but it does put in question what our client/family were doing differently on day 5 of their stay to make this outlet fail. We are not accusing them of deliberately causing damage, we have no proof anyway, but it seems to explain why this item suddenly failed . Having read his email in more detail he actually accuses my family of deliberatly spraying water onto shaving socket to cause damage !!!!!!!! He sent a long email with nothing but accusing me of everything. I had correct and honest answer to all his email but he just ignored ! Funny that . Do not stay at this cottage. Had major safety issues and owner and agent could not care less ! And owner says no compensation as we might have caused damage ?!

Stunning property situated along the estuary in Appledore. Views from all 3 levels amazing. Well equipped, warm & comfortable. Would highly recommend
