Families and couples looking for a straightforward coastal base will find Spruce Cottage useful. It's a single-storey bungalow on a farm near Hartland, within reach of Clovelly, Bideford, Westward Ho! Beach and Exmoor National Park. The whole property is yours alone, with parking for two cars on site.

Everything is on one level: a lounge with Freeview TV, separate dining room, and a kitchen fitted with a cooker, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. Two bedrooms have king-size beds each. The shower room is compact but functional. Electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included in your stay. There is a garden to the back with furniture and a sitting area, plus a shared tennis court if you fancy it, and a bike store.

This isn't a luxury property, but it works well for a week exploring the Devon coastline or heading into Exmoor. The location makes day trips to North Cornwall feasible too. No smoking indoors, and note that the cottage draws water from a borehole rather than mains supply.
