Thornbury Holiday Park - Hazel

Photo: Thornbury Holiday Park

Holsworthy sits in Devon's rolling countryside, four miles from the market town itself, surrounded by walking routes and within reach of the north coast. Thornbury Holiday Park occupies eight and a half acres of meadow with two fishing lakes (licence required), nature trails and a children's play area. Hazel is one of five detached lodges on the grounds, set back from the water with its own parking.

The lodge is single-storey throughout. Three bedrooms sleep five: a zip-and-link kingsize (which can split into two singles), a double and two singles. There's one shower room. The kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave and fridge-freezer; the living room has a Freeview TV and DVD player, plus an electric woodburner. A small decked area with garden furniture opens to the grounds. Electricity, bed linen and WiFi are included, along with heating in most rooms. One dog stays free and can use the trails around the property, though the fishing lakes are unfenced and lie about twenty yards away. No smoking throughout.

Tamar Lakes offers water sports and more fishing nearby. The north Cornish coast—Padstow, Tintagel, Bude—is within an hour's drive, with beaches, walking and surf beaches along the way. The Milky Way and Big Sheep theme parks are also locally accessible.

Our family of 14 stayed at Thornbury over the weekend and we had a great time. We stayed across the Lodge, Bungalow and Caravan. All were clean and had everything we needed. We played games on the green outside and enjoyed walks around the lakes. Seeing the animals around the farm was a lovely bonus and the children loved the goats. There is no bar currently but this didn't impact our stay. The small park was lovely for the younger children and the older ones enjoyed the slide as well. The owners were great and very friendly.

Lovely place, we stayed for a wk in Aug. We stayed in Cedar which needs updating, decor is tired in comparison to the one our other family members stayed in. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, lovely walks around the ponds and meadows with a large enclosed field to let dogs off. We had a few encounters with the feathered neighbours, with one particular Cockeral ruling the roost! 😆 lots of character, made for an effective baby gate. The place would benefit from the bar being open during busier wks. Overall very enjoyable wk and would recommend 👌

This place is a great little gem, especially if you have kids. We stayed in a lodge, which was spacious, clean and had everything you would need. There is a great open area, fishing lake and a play park. We also went on a little stroll around the area, which was beautiful. The children we so happy to see chickens, rabbits and the goats, and we took a stroll to see them every day :) there is also a play park and bar. Very accessible and disability friendly which is another huge plus! The only negative is that we didn’t stay longer! But we will 100% be back again in the very near future :) Highly recommend, 10/10 🤩

Fantastic family campsite. Everything you need for a great get away. Facilities are well looked after and the fishing lake is full of fish (impossible not to catch). Lovely waking up to chickens and rabbits. Owners are really friendly too. Such a peaceful place and will be back for sure.
