About Abbots Reading Farm Octolodges
Tucked into the Lake District National Park near Coniston and Windermere, this small working farm offers something genuinely different: glamping among Highland cattle. Guests rave about getting close to the gentle giants, learning about the herd from knowledgeable, welcoming hosts who share both practical tips and a clear passion for their animals. The octagonal pods are cosy and spotless, while communal facilities are kept impressively clean and well-maintained throughout.
It's a properly authentic farm experience rather than a polished resort, so expect a bit of rustic character alongside the creature comforts. Pitches start from around £120 a night. Note that pets aren't allowed and there's no WiFi—which many find liberating when you've got Highland cows for company and the southern Lakes on your doorstep.

What visitors say
We met Tony and his herds of highland cows for my birthday surprise and it was the best 2 hours. You can definitely tell Tony loves his cows and is very knowledgeable about them too, we learnt so much. You get to visit so many different fields full of highland cows and sheep, lots of photo opportunities and you get to feed them. Would highly recommend if you want a more natural experience.

I could not recommend Abbots Reading Farm and Camping Cabins highly enough. Tony was so accommodating and provided an amazing and educational experience with his beautiful herd of highland cattle. The experience was authentic and ethical as the cattle approached us only as they wished to in their environment, including Harris the bull who loves a good brush! The accomodation was cosy, clean and comfortable and all the facilities were maintained to a great standard and all with amazing scenic views. Thanks again Tony, we will certainly be back.

We had a tour around here on Monday and the owner, Tony, delivered an experience we will never forget! He is a very knowledgable man and we learnt alot about highland cows during our tour. Tony is such a kind, genuine and friendly man. You are able to get close up with the highland cows and the sheep, feed them and also brush Harris( he’s a big boy). During our tour, a cow had recently delivered her baby which added to the experience. We have recommended this to family and friends and will definitely be back in the future! Also, I purchased a t-shirt from the farm which is very good quality. Overall, we had a 10/10 experience and the value for money is second to none!
