The Vale of Glamorgan's Heritage Coast draws people seeking quiet and open landscape. Walden Lodge sits within seven and a half acres of arboretum and wild gardens near St Donat's Castle, reached by footpath through Tresilian Wood. The setting combines sea views with countryside stretching toward distant hills—the kind of place where you notice weather and seasons.

The lodge itself is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom space sleeping four, arranged across a ground floor and first floor. Downstairs is an open-plan living area with kitchen (induction hob, electric oven, dishwasher), dining space, and a sitting room centred on a woodburner. Bedroom 1 has a super kingsize bed; upstairs, bedroom 2 contains a double and single bed. The walk-in shower and toilet are on the ground floor. Timber cladding, oak flooring and Welsh slate throughout create a natural finish. A private terrace overlooks the grounds, with a firepit, barbecue and garden furniture; parking is available for two cars. Electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi are included, plus initial fuel for the stove.

The footpath approach means the lodge feels genuinely set apart. It suits couples, families and small groups wanting a slower pace rather than constant activity. The nearest town is Llantwit Major; St Donat's Castle lies adjacent to the grounds. No smoking inside.

Relaxing few days in a great location. Our Caban was exactly right for what we wanted. Very peaceful with a lovely view over the meadow and out to the sea. A three night stay with two full days of coastal walking. - perfect !

What a stunning couple of days I've had! Dunraven Bay and Cowbridge Physic Garden on day 1 and on day 2 Forage restaurant for lunch followed by a walk to Monknash Bay - just stunning! The hut is brilliant - you have thought of everything - it's the perfect place in the perfect spot... So quiet, lovely to hear just birds... I've done yoga each morning, I've ignored emails and I've read 2 books... Feeling refreshed... Thank you so much!

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Hide and it exceeded all of our expectations. The site itself is beautifully maintained, peaceful, and designed to maximise comfort and relaxation at every level (the heated mattresses were to die for). What truly sets Hide apart is the exceptional hospitality of Paula & Tom - nothing was too much trouble for them, and no detail was spared in designing a truly luxurious experience. We’re already planning our return visit!

The Hide Walden lodge is an absolutely beautiful lodge in a wonderful location. Our hosts Tom and Paula were exceptionally welcoming and helpful providing us advice on coastal walks and went above and beyond even dropping us off to the nearby town for a wedding. Thank you so much for making our stay so special and memorable!
