Initially impressed with the lodge (woodland retreat no 7). Looked very well equipped, clean and tidy. Location very quiet, lovely walk available nearby to Coniston lake. Coniston 15 minutes down the road and Kendall 45 mins away. Unfortunately a few things let it down. Double bed was in a shocking state. The divan base had collapsed in multiple places, this made the bed extremely uncomfortable and resulted in me falling out of bed at one point as there was no support, this urgently needs addressing. I ended up having to sleep on 1 of the twin beds in the 2nd bedroom, which was also in a poor condition but not quite as bad. The frying pan in the cupboard was black and distorted, looked like it had been left burning on a hob for hours. I know some people like a 'seasoned' frying pan but this one was unusable, which scuppered having a fried egg for breakfast. I thought being asked to strip down the beds before leaving and take the rubbish down to the bins at the site entrance was a bit cheeky, especially when you see the hill you have to navigate to do this. Stripping the bed also revealed a rather disturbing stain on the mattress protector which I'd rather have not known was there. The partial toilet roll on the holder had to be thrown away due 💩 on the side 🤢. Ended up leaving a day early as couldn't face another night of broken sleep. Some new beds, stain remover, better cleanliness checks and a frying pan would have made this a 4 star review.

Crake Valley holiday site was peaceful and quiet, good proximity to lake coniston, lovely view from the hill at the back. Approx 20 minute drive to a shop in Ulverston. We stayed in Bluebird Lodge 1. It was smaller than expected but cosy. We only just about managed to fit our baby's cot into the twin bedroom. The highchair we paid for wasn't there on our arrival but the owner bought one round promptly when requested which was good. The overall cleanliness could have been better i.e mould on the bottom of the curtains in the living room, toothpaste marks in the sink, dust under the sofa (baby kicked toy underneath). Some general TLC is required i.e all doors are squeaky when opening and closing (not ideal when baby sleeping) hot tub was lovely although a bit awkward getting in and out and lifting/closing the lid.

We stayed in the copse Howe lodge and honestly the best lodge we have stayed in we have a dog who is highly protective /vocal any car door he barks at at home but with this lodge being slightly tucked away and with the layout we could actually relax without the worry of him barking The lodge is a perfect cosy lodge for a couple with a dog who is reactive we didn’t need to worry when he was out on the veranda as there was nothing for him to reactive with Only worry was the lock on the gate which could come open on windy days for dog getting out We were provided with most things fridge/freezer toaster oven microwave plenty of storage Hot tube was great after long walks and aching muscles Overall 10/10 great place to stay and perfect for our anniversary and also our very reactive dog

Great setting and literally across the road from the base of Coniston Water. Reasonably small site with only a few lodges, which meant it was very quiet. This was great, but the lodges are quite close together and we were very conscious of any noise our kids made. No one said anything and the neighbours were great, but we felt a little close to everyone else and didn't want to risk spoiling their holidays with any raised noise! The lodge is lovely and well equipped. It's probably one of the smallest lodges we've stayed in, particularly the second bedroom and bathroom but it worked for us. The hot tub was a much-needed bonus after walking out and about all day. One thing to be aware of - checkout is 10am but they may start cleaning and refilling the hot tub before then....the water pressure went to practically zero once they started filling the hot tub so make sure you've had a shower early! Again, didn't really bother us but could be inconvenient for some. Finally - the honesty box! A great additional which we made (regular) use of during our week! Lots of homemade treats, snacks, drink, etc. all at reasonable prices and kept well stocked. Really nice just to be able to pick something up on the way out and you'll probably spend less than buying the same stuff once you're offsite - highly recommend a visit!
