Simply brilliant. We visited early in the 2026 season on Saturday 4th April 2026. The restoration of the main station building has provided an excellent HQ for the CHR. At Weston Wharf (the train was only operating between the two stations today) there is an interpretive display plus a great buffet in a 1980s Mk3 TFRB coach. Perfect pleasant staff, reasonably priced tickets (a range of concessions on the fares) plus 73129 "City of Winchester" ElectroDiesel Locomotive hauling two coaches up and down the line, whilst "Alun Evans" dealt with the shunting at Oswestry station. Parking was a doddle (the recommended Market car park was full, standing and rammed full). We got lucky - there is a small car park just on the left as you approach the station site. As you reach the one-way system and before you pass the Range totem sign on the right, turn sharp left into the "long term, car and coach" park. Costs were just 40p per hour, with a cost-effective maximum charge (for a car) of just £4.20 per day. Excellent! We shall return!

Not far off the A5 is this charming heritage preservation railway located in the small town of Oswestry. It might only have a short run of about 2 miles but for £8 for an adult, half or slightly less for child, you can take as many journeys as you like, it's a bit of fun. Plus at the other end is a brewery and distillery, probably also have soft drinks to.

Nice heritage railway, next to the town, for an afternoon. Traditional station with cafe, bar, gift shop and toilets. Small car park but larger car parks around the town. A quaint museum with lots of local railway artifacts. Helpful and friendly staff. They run events so can get very busy. They have pacers and diesel engines and some other rolling stock. The train journeys are about 10 mins each way would be great if it could be a little longer, however you buy a rover ticket and can ride all day. There is a children's play area, next to the brewery, along the line, and dogs are welcome.

Fantastic little railway!! Visited with my partner and we had a lovely time. The ride is short at only 10 minutes but theres lots to see out the window and we loved the carriage compartment to ourselves! We travelled at 11am on Sunday and it wasn't too busy. Staff in the shop were really friendly and we will be sure to be back.
