The coast is a short drive away, and Ormskirk itself has enough shops and pubs to make a base here workable. What makes staying here different is the setting: The Stable is one of four cottages on a working farm, surrounded by six acres of grounds that include a shared garden with a pizza oven, barbecue, chiminea and fire pit. You get a private patio too, and the whole place has the feel of countryside rather than a holiday park.

The cottage itself is a converted outbuilding with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Downstairs is an open-plan living space with kitchen, dining area and lounge; both bedrooms are upstairs, one with a zip-and-link double (or two singles on request), the other with two singles that can link together. Bathrooms include a walk-in shower and a bath with shower over. The kitchen has a full-sized cooker, dishwasher and washing machine. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are included. Three cars can park on site, and there is a bike store in the grounds if you are planning to cycle. Non-smoking only. The grounds contain nine steps, a fenced pond and a stream, so the terrain is not entirely flat.

What a beautiful, gem of a place. Farm buildings that have been converted into self contained apartments. Yes we could have stayed in a souless premier inn with noisy guests at 2am, but we wanted something with character, close to town. Ormskirk and Southport are nearby. Its a paradise for cyclists, hikers and there's even a canal close by for kayakers and Suppers. We will definitely back to stay here!

Stayed in the Dairy for three nights visiting family and old haunts. Perfect for a couple. Cosy and secluded, proper middle of nowhere stuff.

The Dairy was a wonderful place to stay! Perfectly sized and set out for solo or a couple. Private, you wouldn't know there are other units around, but this would be a great place for a stay that needed a number of separate spaces. Convenient for WWT Martin Mere (less than an hour walk if you're so inclined). Although not needed, parking space was fine and safe. Truly everything you'd need for a short (or longer) stay.

Albeit out of the way, we found this a great stay. The hostess was super friendly & helpful & the cottage was clean & well presented for a great price for the 2 nights we stayed.
