Photo: SOUTHFIELD COTTAGE

A brick cottage in rural Daventry, Southfield sits on working farmland with views across open countryside toward the Grand Union Canal, which runs fifty yards away at the bottom of the garden. The building offers one double bedroom and one bathroom, sleeping two, with the whole place to yourself. Downstairs there is a living and dining room with a wood-burning stove and French doors leading to a garden; upstairs is the ensuite bedroom.

The kitchen has an electric oven and hob for self-catering. Electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included; underfloor central heating and initial fuel for the stove mean you will be warm. The large garden has a sitting area, garden furniture and a barbecue, with a bike store if you have brought cycles. Private parking is provided for two cars. Smoking is not permitted indoors.

The Old Plough Pub & Restaurant is within a mile. The canal towpath is immediately accessible, with good walks and cycle routes throughout the area. Stoke Bruerne Canal Museum is a thirty-minute drive away. One dog is welcome.

Great location, very poor customer service from Neil, the so called host…Neil was very polite and helpful on day 1, told us nothing was too much trouble and get in touch if we needed him. We stayed for 3 nights end Oct 25 into November 25 and first 2 nights were great. We had an issue on day 3 lunchtime and couldn’t lock the back door. “ Host “ lives next door and as previously , told us to contact if needed so texted then spoke and was promised a visit later, never happened and we did not feel comfortable in a cottage with open fields backing onto canals. I slept downstairs in a small chair and was accused of being dramatic and a drama queen - Northants customer service , not….. “ Host “ view was Braunston is a safe village so no issue leaving unlocked. Left “ Host “ a hand written note but did not update his guest book, advising not happy that he did not visit as promised. Then subject to message after message, then telling me door was fine ( it wasn’t for 2 adults) . Very condescending and clearly not use to feedback. Maybe “ Host” is only nice when not receiving feedback from a guest or required to remediate an issue. Personally, I would avoid as unless you have no issues, you may get an angry response or one saying how much guests love him….

A magical cottage in a picturesque location. Every need catered for and nothing was too much trouble for the owner. I would 100% recommend this to anyone for a peaceful getaway in the Northants countryside. Beautiful .

The 'cottage' original stable, with it's history that has been preserved and the story told, is too delightful. Very cozy, clean, warm and well appointed. We had a superb 4 night stay. Made to feel so welcome. Fantastic for our dog. Beautiful gardens, lawns and view. Short walk to local pub and takeaways. We will be using it for family and friends. Loved it!!
