Writers Cottage is a converted barn where the living spaces occupy the first floor, capturing views across farmland and Nenthead village from the sofa. The bedroom and bathroom are downstairs. A wood burner in the living room, a spa bath with shower, and a kitchen equipped for proper cooking make this a comfortable base for exploring the North Pennines. One dog is welcome.
The cottage sits in genuine quiet—surrounded by moorland rather than crowded villages. Alston itself is 4 miles away, a market town known for local food producers and the starting point of England's highest narrow-gauge railway. For those interested in industrial history, the area's abandoned lead and silver mines remain accessible. Electricity, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are included; heating and initial logs for the wood burner are provided. There is parking for two cars on site and a garden with furniture. The water supply comes from a spring on the property.
