A wing of a 16th-century farmhouse on an active beef and sheep farm, Barker Knott Cottage is a self-contained retreat for two with everything on ground level. Original features remain—low ceilings, exposed beams, thick stone walls—while the rooms have been furnished simply and warmly. The open-plan living space contains a sitting area with Freeview TV and an open fire, a dining area, and a kitchen equipped with an electric cooker and microwave. The bedroom holds a double bed; the shower room has a cubicle shower. Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and heating are provided.

The cottage sits in quiet countryside with walks available directly from the property. Bowness and Windermere are 1.5 miles away, offering steamer trips on the lake, shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants. A pub is within half a mile. The Lake District fells are a short drive distant. There is parking for one car on site. The property draws water from a natural spring. No smoking is permitted.

Absolutely stunning place, with the warmest of welcomes. Visited for my 50th Birthday, and was welcomed by baloons, birthday banners, cakes, candles, a card and gifts from the host, and the icing on the cake is view from the deck. Cant wait to go back.

This is a wonderful little farm cottage. Cosy and well kept. The location is lovely, not walking distance from Bowness (unless you like really long walks), but it's a quick drive. We used this place as a hub for a few days while we went hiking up some of the many mountains and peaks in the area, and it was a good location for that. The cottage itself was very nice, the fireplace was great on a cold evening and the full kitchen was great, we cooked many a meal. The only issue is that the ceilings are low, so if you are tall, be prepared to bend a lot! I'm 6ft5 and hit my head a few times, but that didn't take away from how nice the place is.

The location is just so unspoilt it was a delightful experience to spend a week there. The farmhouse that I think was built in the 1700's has been restored which was probably a very difficult task.
