About Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel
Above the shores of Lake Windermere, on the quiet rise of Longtail Hill, Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel occupies a spot that mixes Lake District countryside with easy access into Windermere town. The gardens surrounding the house are well kept and add to the sense of calm, while the surrounding fells and lake give guests plenty of reason to linger outdoors.
The hotel's 34 rooms are decorated with an eye for comfort rather than fashion, and come with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and, in some cases, family-friendly layouts. Accessible rooms are available, and there's a bridal suite for those marking an occasion, as the hotel also operates as a wedding venue. Food is a strong point, with a restaurant serving breakfast and dinner, a bar for something more relaxed, packed lunches for days out, and room service for quieter evenings.
Beyond the house itself, guests can walk or cycle through the surrounding countryside, try fishing or watersports nearby, or head into Windermere for pubs, restaurants and entertainment. The World of Beatrix Potter is also within reach for those wanting a change of pace. Free on-site parking and an electric vehicle charge point make arriving by car straightforward, whatever the plans for the stay.
What guests say
We had a wonderful two-night stay at Lindeth Howe Hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful, set in a fantastic location with stunning surroundings and a peaceful atmosphere. Our room was lovely, comfortable, and well-appointed, and the dinner was excellent, with high-quality food and great service. What really made our stay special was the exceptional staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful, but a special mention must go to Kyle on reception. On an extremely hot day, he went above and beyond by kindly lending me his fan whilst we were checking in, which was greatly appreciated. He also took the time to show us around the hotel and shared his knowledge of both the property's history and the local area, which really enhanced our visit. The combination of a beautiful hotel, excellent food, and outstanding customer service made for a memorable stay. We would highly recommend Lindeth Howe Hotel and would not hesitate to return.

We booked the dinner, bed and breakfast package, which cost over £310 for the room. The hotel itself is beautiful, the room was lovely, and all of the staff were friendly and professional. Unfortunately, the dining experience was very disappointing. If I had to rate the food, I would give it 4/10. For the starter, we ordered the fish cake. It was honestly the worst fish cake I’ve ever had. It had a strong flour taste and a noticeable fishy smell, but very little actual fish flavour. For the main course, my wife ordered the fish of the day, which was cod. It appeared to be made from the tail end of the fish. The sauce was extremely thin and lacked seasoning, and the vegetables were simply boiled without much flavour. The biggest disappointment was the dessert. We ordered the cheesecake, and it was obvious that it wasn’t homemade. Overall, while the hotel exceeded our expectations, the restaurant did not. Even though the dinner was included in the package, we still paid over £310 for our stay, so we expected a much higher standard of food. I would happily recommend the hotel, but I would avoid dining in the restaurant.

I have no words. This beautiful building and grounds are incredible. Inside has a very quirky but amazing decor with something to look at at every turn. Our room had a view of the stunning gardens with huge windows that make it feel like you're at one with outside. The bed was comfortable with a spacious bathroom, wardrobe, coffee machine & pods and a dressing table and mirror. Breakfast was lush, again with incredible views through luggage windows and we ventured into said gardens after with our coffee. So peaceful and serene. All the staff were friendly and extremely helpful and we would love to visit again.
