Bowness sits on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere, surrounded by the peaks and valleys that make the Lake District a destination for walkers, cyclists and those simply looking to be among mountains and water. Howe Cottage is a 17th-century property within a few hundred yards of the town and the lake itself, positioned to use either as a base for expeditions or a quiet retreat between them.
The cottage sleeps six across three bedrooms: two doubles on the first floor and a twin on the second. There are two bathrooms, one with a bath and shower, one with a shower cubicle. The ground floor holds a living room with a multi-fuel burner, a separate sitting room without a television, and a kitchen/dining room equipped for cooking and washing up. Bed linen, towels, wi-fi and heating are included; the initial fuel for the burner is provided. There is private parking for two cars and a sitting-out area with garden furniture. One well-behaved dog can stay free. The property has several sets of stairs, including open and steep sections.
The town centre, with its shops, pubs and restaurants, is on your doorstep. Fell-walking routes radiate outward—the Langdales, Scafell Pike, Great Gable and Coniston Old Man are all reachable within a day trip. Boat cruises depart from Bowness itself, and the Beatrix Potter Exhibition is nearby. No smoking indoors.
