What visitors say
Amazing time at the Ferry Museum and the ticket is valid for a year. Highly recommend the Osprey Heritage Steamboat tour (max 12 capacity) run by volunteers and the wonderful cafe. Superb mushroom and tarragon soup with truffle oil, the best I have ever tasted, all at reasonable prices. Sheltered pod benches and lake access too. Free parking when spending £5 in shop or cafe so definitely worth stopping even if just to try the soup and eat at the lake side cafe!

We visited on Saturday as part of Festival on the Lake. It was a brilliant day, really well organised with helpful and friendly staff. The views of the lake are stunning. The volunteers are very friendly and happy to share their knowledge with you. There were some lovely interactives which kept my 9 year old happy. We even got to take part in a boat launch & naming ceremony which was really special. Outdoor aspects are dog friendly, and you easily spend a couple of hours at the outdoor cafe seating, admiring the view! Well worth a visit.

What a great place to visit and see the history that is all about the vessels that are past and present that use or used in the past on the Lake Windamere. There is some fantastic displays of all kind of boats and sailing craft to observe, also the history of many famous people who frequently visited Lake Windamere. There is a lovely cafe with plenty of snacks on offer and maybe your favourite coffee or tea. It is also dog friendly as long as the owners behave them selves. There is also a guided tour that is done once a day at roughly 10.30 am. Outdoor seating for the ones that want to enjoy the stunning veiw of the lake. Wild water swimmers most welcome. Now if when you arrive in the car park please read the large red notice board by the pay machines before you put you money in the machine, because if you going around the museum and maybe a coffee afterwards then note your time of arrival and go to reception and tell them you have park Ed your vehicle they will ask if your going around the museum and you will get 4hrs free parking.

What a delightful museum for my Arthur Ransome-loving girls! Staff was so friendly and welcoming, and when I said we were huge Swallows and Amazons fans, the gentleman at the front desk described in great detail all that was out to see so that we didn't Miss anything. We didn't know much beforehand about the owners of the other boats on display beyond Beatrix Potter's rowing boat, but we found it all fascinating and learned a lot. We got a kick out of the "Windermere Kettle" on the Osprey, in particular! My little one enjoyed the dress-up clothes. I also appreciate that two staff members took the time to figure out how to use my Art Fund membership card for a discount. Very family -friendly attitude. My 13 year old said that this museum and Hill Top Farm were the two highlights of our time in the Lakes!
