Avebury Cottage

Wiltshire

Avebury Cottage is a detached Grade II listed property dating from at least 1724, set in the churchyard with views towards St James Church and Avebury Manor. The cottage sleeps five across three bedrooms: a double, a three-quarter double, and two singles. There is one bathroom with a bath and shower. Low beamed ceilings throughout (around 6ft) are original to the building, which has lime-washed walls and a thatched roof. The layout means it suits families or small groups looking for a base to explore the area rather than those wanting contemporary spaciousness.

Downstairs holds a living room with a wood-burning stove and Freeview TV, a separate dining room, and a kitchen with electric oven, hob and microwave. A utility room contains a washing machine. Essentials including electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are provided. Outside, a courtyard with seating and garden furniture offers a quiet spot, though the garden is not completely enclosed. Parking permits for the National Trust car park are included. The cottage does not allow smoking due to the thatched roof, and it has two steps to the courtyard.

Avebury Stone Circle is a few minutes' walk away; the village is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a manor house, gardens and archaeology museum to visit. Several marked footpaths lead to Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow and the Ridgeway. The Kennet and Avon Canal and the market town of Devizes are nearby. One dog can stay free, though the garden may need checking for gaps.
