Duck Cottage

Photo: Duck's Cottage

Duck Cottage dates from an era when rural dwellings were built to last, and its character shows in the careful setting within grounds that border the River Bourne. The whole property sits on the ground floor, arranged around a generous open-plan living and dining space that opens directly onto a terrace. From here, the gardens unfold in layers—cultivated beds giving way to wilder areas that draw otters, deer, kingfishers and woodpeckers, with the river itself just beyond. In summer when levels are low, you can walk and paddle in the water; at other times, the platform overlooking it makes a quiet spot to sit.

Two bedrooms, each with a smart television and their own en-suite or full bathroom, mean guests needn't negotiate mornings. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking from scratch—electric oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave and all the rest—while heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are all covered. There is parking for two cars on site and a bike store. The village pub lies within walking distance, and Salisbury cathedral city is a short drive away; Stonehenge is closer still. Note that the garden includes an unfenced pond and the river lies about 50 metres from the house. Smoking is not permitted inside.

Absolutely gorgeous and beautiful cottage in the country side. Stayed there with family few weeks ago. This cottage is well maintained, every room is a very nice size. Kitchen has everything you need to enjoy good home made meals. The owners were very friendly! We are definitely missing this place (and the dogs)!

Lovely peaceful cottage with easy access to many attractions. Really friendly hosts and high level of decor throughout the cottage. Cream tea was an amazing bonus to end our stay. Would certainly look to stay here again in the future.

I spent a wonderful week at Ducks Cottage with my husband, son & his fiancée. Immaculate & so well presented. Alma was such a wonderful host. Lovely homemade scones were provided on arrival. Everything you could possibly need was provided within the cottage & garden. We would definitely recommend it and we will be returning as it was the best holiday cottage we have stayed in.
