Photo: The Cart House

Winchester's countryside villages sit within reach of the South Downs, and The Cart House occupies a converted barn on the edge of this landscape. What was once an open-fronted timber structure with cart bays has been finished to a high standard, retaining original beams and a vaulted kitchen/dining room that opens onto the garden. The layout spreads across two levels: downstairs holds a kingsize bedroom with ensuite shower, a double, a living room and that kitchen with electric oven, induction hob, dishwasher and washer dryer. Upstairs, a mezzanine bedroom with two singles overlooks the kitchen space and has its own ensuite toilet, while another galleried area serves as a quiet second living room with views across the fields.

The property sleeps six and comes with bed linen, towels, wifi and heating included. There is parking for three cars on site, an electric charging point, and a garden with furniture and gas barbecue. A travel cot and highchair are available. The Cart House suits families or groups wanting their own whole space, and couples after a rural retreat. Pubs and independent shops—butcher, bakery—are minutes away in Bishop's Waltham itself. No smoking inside.

We've had a wonderful and very relaxed stay in this beautiful barn-conversion, which has all mod-cons needed, plus lots of thoughtful extras! Our hosts, Vanessa and Jonathan were immediately on-hand if any questions arose and were so helpful. Beds were super comfy, and we loved the property so much we barely left it, however when we did need to there were lots of amenities just a few mins drive away. We would love to return.

What a stunning property. A fantastic holiday conversion that lets the building remain true to its roots whilst leaving guests wanting nothing. Fantastically appointed with hugely generous furnishings and luxurious touches this really was a beautiful home from home. Perfect location for exploring with so much to see and do right on the doorstep that whether you’re a family looking to keep kids entertained or simply want to get away from it all this will suit you to a tee. Jon and Vanessa were excellent hosts resolving any finer points immediately. We couldn’t have asked for more.
