About Denecrest Guest House
Denecrest Guest House is a Victorian building in Windermere, kept small and simple with just five rooms across two floors. It has the feel of a family-run home rather than a large hotel, with straightforward, comfortable rooms that suit those wanting an uncomplicated base in the Lake District.
Each room comes with its own en-suite bathroom, and a full breakfast is included to set guests up for the day. There's a garden with outdoor seating, free WiFi throughout, drinks available in the rooms, and 24 hour reception for whenever you arrive or need help. Free parking can be found nearby, useful given the guesthouse's residential spot on Woodland Road.
The location puts guests within easy reach of Lake Windermere and Holehird Gardens, and the surrounding area offers walking and cycling routes, fishing, golf, horse riding and watersports for those wanting to get out and about. Pubs, restaurants and other eateries are close by too, along with entertainment options for the evening.
What guests say
Booked a room last minute for a swim event we were given an 11th hour free entry to. It was one of the few places in town left available. The review will probably explain why. Nobody on site on arrival. Had to phone to be let in. We got into the room then Chris turned up and explained the coffee machine. We had our bikes with us, and my daughter who had biked across to see us for the afternoon and have a meal. We went up to the room, putting our bikes in there with us while we got ready to go out. The room is extremely small with no room for a chair or tea tray. You have to go downstairs to make a drink. Its a small double bed, and you can barely walk around it. Theres no BBC option on the TV, they've obviously not paid for a license. Anyway, we went downstairs to go out for food and Chris was still in the drinks dining room area with his laptop. I said hello and he asked where we were going for food. I explained. He said OK and carried on whatever he was doing online. 5 to 10 mins later as we walked into town Chris called my partner to tell her that he had been through the room and the bikes needed moving outside. I had already told him while he was explaining the coffee machine that we would lock them back in the car later before bed. He was also on the property when they were moved into the room. Abi re-iterated this. He then said that we had only paid for a double and 3 people couldn't sleep in the room. She explained that we simply had family come to meet us for food and they obviously weren't sleeping in the room. The call concluded. He then proceeded to both email and text my partner the same comments about the bike and 3 in a room... she did not reply. When we got back my daughter got her bike and said goodbye, and we moved the other bikes as planned. After that had happened I went to make a cup of tea and became aware of Chris sat in the store cupboard area behind the dining area with the lights off and no sound etc. Just him in the dark in silence listening to us and seeing what happened. He must have been in there 2 hours +. A proper strange man. Had every opportunity to speak directly with me about his concerns - BUT ignored them, went through the room after we left (creepy and unprofessional at best) then called, emailed and text my partner badgering her about things that could have been easily clarified in person in 30 seconds. Then hung around hiding to monitor what happened on our return. My partner said had she been here alone she would have been very uncomfortable with his behaviour. You don't get a lot for your money at this place, its clearly just a business with no feel of love or care, just functional bare minimum to make the most money - but you expect people to behave like normal human beings. Budget price, budget mentality. Thing is, it isn't actually cheap... we've staying in the wider area a lot of times, and for a couple of £ more you can get a much much better level of service and quality of room. Plan ahead people.
