About Stockghyll Cottage
Stockghyll Cottage is a modest stone-built cottage on Rayrigg Road in Windermere, with just three rooms, making it a compact and homely alternative to the town's larger hotels. Its size means a quieter, more personal stay rather than a full range of facilities, but what's on offer is well looked after, with en-suite bathrooms in every room, drinks available in the room, and a garden to sit out in.
Mornings start with an English breakfast, and there's free WiFi throughout along with 24 hour reception for guests arriving at odd hours. Free on-site parking is provided, which is a genuine convenience in a town where space can be tight.
The setting near the lake puts guests within reach of walking and cycling routes, plus watersports, fishing, golf, and horse riding nearby. There's also no shortage of places to eat or drink close by, with pubs, restaurants and entertainment all within easy reach for evenings after a day exploring the Lake District countryside.
What guests say
Heather and Adrien were absolutely lovely and welcoming. The rooms were very clean and stocked up with everything we needed. The garden and waterfall area is dreamlike. The breakfast options are fantastic and is made with locally sourced ingredients, including award-winning sausages and home-made jam. The fact that lake Windermere is just across the street and that it's so close to town is the cherry on top. P.S. They have a wonderful furry friend named Hamish. He is very soft, well behaved, and very polite when you're having your breakfast.

We loved everything at this place! Owners were so polite and helpful when we asked for some info. Parking in place. Private waterfall with a bench so very nice to sit there and enjoy the view. Nice lake view from the room. 5 minutes walk to a shop/petrol station. 10 minutes walk from the centre and lake cruises. We will definitely go back

Really really enjoyed our stay there, Adrian and heather were great hosts as was Hamish (the boss). Breakfasts were excellent and their homemade honey and other condiments were of excellent quality and taste! Behind the house there was a wonderful waterfall where you could sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. A short walk to Bowness on Windermere where you could catch the bus or take a boat trip to local towns.

We stayed at Stock Ghyll Cottage for two nights and had a perfect experience. Not only the location is perfect, not too centric yet not too far from the town, the cottage was warm, clean and quiet. The back garden adds a fairy-like atmosphere to the whole experience as there is an amazing waterfall and stream you can enjoy at any time. Above all, the owners were so kind and welcoming! Check-in was quick and smooth, the room clean and breakfast was delicious! Especially loved the single portions of jam and little bottles of juice. I would absolutely recommend staying at Stock Ghyll Cottage! 5/5!
