The White Horse is a historic inn at Upper Poppleton, a North Yorkshire village on the outskirts of ancient York, with the city centre reachable in under 10 minutes by train (the station's a five-minute walk) or via the number 10 bus that stops right outside. The large car park accommodates a small handful of self-contained motorhomes on hardstanding pitches, making this an easy overnight or longer base for exploring York and the surrounding countryside.
Dog-friendly and well-placed for scenic walks along the River Ouse (five minutes away) or in the York Community Woodland, it's an ideal spot for stretching legs between city sightseeing. The pub itself serves a seasonally changing menu featuring speciality pies and Sunday roasts made with local produce, plus a solid drinks selection and a beer garden for warmer evenings. Facilities are straightforward – as a tiny pub stopover it won't have all the bells and whistles of a large campsite – but the location, welcome and food more than compensate.
