About Yorebridge House
Yorebridge House stands on the edge of Bainbridge in Upper Wensleydale, in what was once the village school and the headmaster's house. It has been run as a small luxury hotel for well over a decade and sits in five acres of private grounds with the River Ure running along the boundary. The scale is deliberately intimate, with a handful of rooms rather than a corridor of them, and service is personal rather than formal.
Each bedroom is styled differently, most of them named after places connected to the old school's history, and several have private outdoor hot tubs on terraces or balconies looking towards the fells. Rooms are generously sized with roll-top or freestanding baths, seating areas and good beds; the ones in the main house keep their original proportions and tall windows. There is also a riverside spa retreat, the Ure River Retreat, used on a private-hire basis rather than as a shared facility.
The restaurant is the other half of the operation and holds three AA rosettes alongside a Michelin guide listing. Menus are tasting-led and change with the seasons, leaning heavily on Yorkshire producers, and breakfast is cooked to order rather than laid out as a buffet. Dinner is generally expected to be taken in-house, which suits the location — there is not a great deal else within walking distance after dark.
It suits couples and small groups celebrating something, and anyone who wants Wensleydale's walking and waterfalls without giving up on comfort. Aysgarth Falls, Hardraw Force and Hawes with its creamery are all a short drive away, and the Buttertubs Pass over to Swaledale starts nearby. Weddings and private events are held here too, so it is worth checking availability well ahead for weekends.

What guests say
I decided to propose and stayed at yorebridge. The staff were so helpful in making sure it was a special occasion. The themed room was lovely. Incredible spot if you enjoy nature walks. We gave a heads up that we were vegan, it really felt like the dinner menu wasn’t just adapted, but properly made to be vegan: we both agreed it was the fanciest and best meal we’d had together! Breakfast great too. Private hot tub. Helpful and friendly staff. Full marks all around.

Based on having dinner, bed and breakfast. Food - Dinner really good and prepared with a passion for detail and flavours. Enjoyed being able to see into the kitchen. Not big portions but the flavour is worth it. The green herb butter was outstanding. We would eat here again. Service - Excellent, friendly staff especially in restaurant. Thank you. Room - Quite compact compared to photos and getting a bit tired - hot tub cover falling apart. We would not stay again.

Fabulous couple of days. We chose a dog friendly room and bought our boy with us. Some brilliant walks around locally, we sure got our steps in. The room was really lovely and ambient - not your typical dog friendly room! We ate at Yorebridge on the first night and had a great meal, the hogget with pearl Barley was really exceptional, and my husband, who is a big dessert person, said the rhubarb & custard was the best he has ever had. So top marks to the chef! Finally thankyou to the excellent service at breakfast, they even gave us an extra sausage for the dog Thanks for great stay

We wanted to take a moment to write to you following our wedding at Yorebridge House in December, to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the exceptional experience you and your team provided. From start to finish, everything was handled with the utmost professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail. The setting, the service, and the atmosphere were all outstanding and made our wedding truly unforgettable. In particular, we would like to commend Sophie, who was simply exceptional. Her organisation, calm reassurance, and genuine care meant that everything ran seamlessly, allowing us to relax and fully enjoy our day. Nothing was too much trouble, and her support before and during the wedding made a huge difference to us. Please also pass on our thanks to the wider team, whose friendliness and dedication did not go unnoticed by us or our guests. We were so pleased to be able to have our miniature dachshund Teddy with us on the day and the team took great care of him after the photos until the end of the night! The food was as outstanding as ever, even with 70 guests to cater for. We received so many compliments from our guests on the service and food as well. Our bridal party occupied all of the rooms in the house which everyone was equally blown away with - I'm sure you already know this, but you've made a diamond of a purchase! We will treasure the memories and look forward to returning later in the year to enjoy the delights of Yorebridge House again soon! With warmest regards, Lucy & Jay Whiten
