The Stables is a converted steading on a working farm outside Lumsden, between Alford and Huntly in Aberdeenshire. Everything is on the ground floor with no internal or external steps. Two bedrooms, both with en-suite shower rooms—one has a zip-and-link kingsize (divisible into two singles on request), the other a double bed—mean four guests can sleep comfortably with privacy. The open-plan kitchen and living space faces out to the fields; a woodburner and underfloor heating with individual room controls keep the place warm, and the patio and small garden give you somewhere to sit outside.

The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, with an electric oven, hob, dishwasher and washing machine. Bed linen, towels, wi-fi and the initial fuel for the woodburner are included; electricity runs on a meter. One dog is welcome and stays free, though it must be kept on a lead as the property sits on a working farm. Parking for two cars is on site, and there's an electric vehicle charging point if you need it. Lumsden has a small shop, garage and children's playpark, plus a sculpture trail. The larger town of Alford, a few miles away, has a supermarket, independent shops and two museums—the Grampian Transport Museum and Alford Heritage Museum. Fishing, golf, go-karting and walking are all within reach.

A wonderful stay here over New Year 24/25! Loved the underfloor heating (easy to use/completely normal operation -clear written and verbal instructions offered) and the log burner was a real unexpected treat (wasn’t pictured specifically in photos so was a surprise for us!). Cottage was spotlessly clean and tidy and everything we expected was provided (with clear instructions in visitor manual). There was even a Christmas tree! 😍🎄 We were also impressed by the cottage’s accessibility / disabled facilities. Plenty of parking available. Village in easy walking distance, if you wanted to do the Sculpture Trail (we did and enjoyed the suggested circular walk). Fiona and Thomas were hospitable and attentive hosts. They kindly gave us a farm tour, which we greatly enjoyed (vintage tractors and machinery on display, stunning scenery, cows, sheep, ducks, working dogs and a cute puppy!). 10/10 would stay here again if visiting the area and would recommend to friends and family.

Wonderful stay, all the rooms were lovely and the kitchen well equipped. WiFi and heating were excellent and we particularly enjoyed the fireplace. The hosts were also brilliant and very welcoming.

Really comfortable spacious well equipped cottage . It's in a quiet peaceful location but not far off a main road so great base for visiting Aberdeenshire. . The only minor niggle was the poor WiFi signal. Many thanks for the tasty welcome pack

This accessible cottage has lovely surroundings and is dog friendly. All rooms have en suite and the wet room is very good. The host is friendly and helpful. There were lovely welcome gifts when we arrived. Would highly recommend.
