Stuffers Cottage

Aberdeenshire

In the Cairngorms foothills where red deer drift across the landscape and the River Dee winds through moorland, Stuffers Cottage sits as a converted workshop on the Mar Estate. Originally built in 1884 as a timber structure, it was left to decay before restoration returned it to working order with the essentials of modern life now installed—heating, electricity and hot water among them.

The cottage holds one bedroom with a double bed, a shower room, and a combined kitchen and dining space where you can cook proper meals rather than rely on takeaways. A sitting room with Freeview television sits apart. Bed linen and towels arrive ready; electricity is included in the cost. There's parking for one car and a grassy garden to step out into. One well-behaved pet can come with you.

This sits near Braemar village, where the Highland Games take place each September—a tradition stretching back into the 11th century. Aberdeen is within an hour's drive, as is Perth, while shops and supplies are three miles away. The setting itself is the draw: open countryside where you wake to the river's presence and the kind of quiet that comes from being properly remote.
