Calendar House is a fine French Chateaux type property with plenty of positives about it. It's a Local Authority maintained property and they are doing their best to maintain and develop the estate but it's clear to a visitor that the grounds and surrounding properties are in need of development and investment. To achieve that it would all need to be in private hands or the National Trust for Scotland. That said it's well worth a visit and plan to spend around an hour exploring the house, and a little longer if you want to walk around the grounds also. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

Great little stop off. Beautifully preserved Georgian house. Set in lovely gardens. House is a museum Which is free to enter. The kitchen was used to film in the outlander series

A trip out in the rain ended up as a big surprise, a suggestion was made to look around Callendar park. It turned into an amazing couple of hours with an interesting visit into the house. It was a bit of an eye opener with all sorts of local history on display. From the Roman finds from around the Antonine wall to the history of the house with galleries throughout depicting everything from the Fireclay mines to the local Ironworks with displays all through the house. The house was free entry so there is no excuse not to look around if you are nearby. The also have a little cafe which does an amazing latte 😀

Lovely place to visit on a rainy day will try again the summer. I especially like the kitchens they are huge. Plus the old fashioned shops inside as well. We had lunch soup and a sandwich plus tea coffee and cakes all very nice and tasty. Will be going back again. Nice to know they have disabled access plus a lift. Completely free entry.
