Heart of Scotland Holidays - The Boathouse

Photo: Heart of Scotland Holidays

Families and small groups looking for somewhere different will find The Boathouse appeals instantly. This is a self-contained two-bedroom cabin sleeping four, built beside a pond as part of a small cluster of distinctive holiday homes within the grounds of a listed house just outside Falkirk. The bedrooms—one upstairs accessed by spiral staircase, one on the ground floor—both have zip-and-link beds that split into singles on request, and there's a walk-in shower room. Downstairs, the open-plan living space includes a kitchen with electric hob and microwave; a separate utility room with full-size cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer is shared with the other properties on-site.

The cabin sits at the heart of Central Scotland, roughly halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow, each around 30 minutes away. Closer still, woodland walks trace the Antonine Wall just two minutes' walk off, and a supermarket, pubs and takeaways are five minutes on foot. One dog is welcome. Essentials including electricity, heating, wi-fi, bed linen and towels are included; you'll have private parking for two cars. A shared sitting area with barbecue is available, and there's a fenced stream and pond bordering the property. Check-in is after 4pm, checkout before 10am. Smoking is not permitted.

Heather and Matt go above and beyond for their guests, we stayed in the bothy had an amazing time stunning setting while not being too far from tourist attractions can't wait to bring the little one back to stay. Definitely a hidden gem in not so rural Perth (not that you could tell). Good luck with everything 🍀

We chose to stay at heart of Scotland as a base to visit family in the area and having just got a dog, we now need pet friendly accommodation. Our stay was more functional than a break so we didn’t really have large expectations or demands of our accommodation. However, we were really blown away by what we found. In advance, the communication was excellent and timeous. There was a clear desire from the owners to find out anything we needed and provide a really positive experience. When we arrived we were met warmly and shown around. The first sighting of the site is really marvellous. What they’ve done with the space is really exceptional, but not overpowering and fits nicely with the location. We stayed in the boathouse. The room was immaculate and the provision of a dog bed, toys and some treats for our dog was really kind. Humans were well cared for as well! Basics like tea and coffee were available, and fresh milk. I think what really impressed us was something very mundane. We have stayed in lots of different self catering before, and from experience we now take out ‘caravan box’ with us. It has lots of boring essentials like cleaning sprays, washing liquid, sponges, salt and pepper etc. having stayed in places where you get nothing. We never had to dip into the caravan box. Every essential and more were provided. And that meant the most to us. This was a genuine effort by the owners to make a stay as stress free and simple as possible. While we were staying we’ve already made a further two bookings and look forward to using heart of Scotland for years to come when we are visiting family.

We just had a wonderful 3-night stay at the Heart of Scotland Cat Cabin — and we loved every minute! Both the cats and the kids had an amazing time. The hosts have thought of everything, from cordless blinds and windows that open in stages (so you can let in fresh air without any escapees) to complimentary cat toys alongside your tea and coffee. The kitchen in the cabin was well equipped with a toaster, kettle, two ring hob, fridge freezer and a microwave. The cabin was spotlessly clean and beautifully maintained. You truly feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, yet there’s so much to do in the local area. The nearby train station even gets you into Edinburgh in just 20 minutes. For those who want to self-cater like we did, there’s an Aldi just up the road. The 'extra' communal kitchen is a stroke of genius — incredibly well stocked with every utensil you could need to cook a three-course meal while washing and drying laundry at the same time. This made life so much easier for our stay! We arrived on a very cold Scottish evening, and Heather had thoughtfully put the heaters on and even switched on the porch light for us — such a lovely touch. Even though all five other cabins were busy during our stay, they are so well spaced and designed that it felt like we had the place to ourselves at first. We simply loved it and couldn’t fault a thing. We will definitely be back — it’s an absolute gem of a place! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. If you like, I can also create a shorter, punchy version suitable for TripAdvisor or Google reviews. Do you want me to do that?

We have just come back from a stay in "The Kennel Lodge", it was clean and tidy and a lovely size for the four of us and 2 dogs. The enclosed garden is a lovely bonus to be able to leave the door open and not worry. The lodge had everything we needed and we used the cooking facilities in the shared kitchen which has everything you need and more. The lodges are perfectly set up around the lovely grounds. Heather and Matt made us feel really welcome and was available if you needed anything. Would definitely stay again. The lodges are a perfect location for visiting the Kelpies, Falkirk Wheel etc and close to local shops Aldi, take aways, petrol station etc. Thank you for a lovely stay 🥰🥰
