About Ambleside Townhouse
Ambleside Townhouse occupies a converted building on Compston Road, one of the town centre's main streets, putting guests within a few minutes' walk of the shops, outdoor retailers and restaurants that line the surrounding lanes. The property has been renovated to a high standard, with individually decorated ensuite rooms that lean towards a contemporary look rather than the more traditional Victorian style found at many of the town's older guest houses.
Breakfast is served each morning and is consistently highlighted by guests as one of the property's strongest features, made from local ingredients and offering both traditional and lighter options. The central location means no car is needed once you've arrived, with Bridge House, Stock Ghyll Force and the start of several fell paths all within walking distance.
Its combination of boutique styling and a genuinely central position makes it a popular choice for couples and shorter breaks built around exploring the town on foot.

I'm from Taiwan, and this is my first time visiting the UK, and my first time in the Lake District. I'm very satisfied with my choice of hotel. I'm so happy to have stayed here. The staff were incredibly warm and friendly. When they saw our heavy luggage, they kindly helped us carry it upstairs, which touched us deeply. The breakfast was also quite plentiful and delicious. If I have the chance to visit the Lake District again, I will definitely choose this hotel again.

We have just got back from a 2 night stay at the Ambleside townhouse, we can't recommend this hotel enough! Location is brilliant, right in the town, and parking provided with the hotel which is great as it can get very busy in the day with visitors. Our room was perfect for our stay and had beautiful views of Ambleside. Complimentary fan in the room was great as it was very warm, so thankyou! The breakfast that was included was really great, fast service with cooked to order breakfasts, great choice, and lots of other options to help yourself to. Perfect! We will definitely return and recommend to anyone who is thinking of visiting Ambleside for a long weekend. We were around 20 minutes drive to Beatrix potter hill top farm, and walking distance to Lake Windermere with easy access to all lake cruises. 10/10 Thankyou!

We stayed at Ambleside Townhouse for four nights in Room 25, which is on the top floor. Unfortunately, the room was much smaller than others and our stay was significantly affected by how hot it became. The room only had a small desktop fan, which wasn't adequate in the heat. The windows were fitted with restriction latches, so they couldn't be opened enough to let in sufficient fresh air. As a result, we slept very poorly throughout our stay, which was especially disappointing as we had planned several days of trekking and simply didn't have the energy due to the lack of sleep. We found ourselves staying out as late as possible each day in the hope that the room would cool down before bedtime. After the first night, I spoke to the manager and asked if another fan could be provided, but was told there weren't any available and that this situation would be the same if we were at home. She also said they don't often get very hot weather. We were offered another room, but after looking at it, we realised it was also on the top floor with the same small fan, so it wouldn't have solved the problem. Parking is available in the public car park next door, but spaces are limited and we struggled to find a space when returning in the evenings. The parking also cost an additional £47 for our stay. I did wonder why only a few rooms appeared to have reserved parking bays. No lift. On a positive note, the breakfast was excellent and the location is ideal for exploring Ambleside. Unfortunately, due to the issues with the room temperature, we wouldn't stay here again and wouldn't recommend this accommodation. I would strongly suggest the management invest in more powerful fans or another solution to improve guest comfort during hot weather.
