The setting feels more parkland than typical campsite—thirty-two non-electric pitches are kept to tents only, with a five-metre maximum size that preserves the open, uncluttered character of the field. Fire pits are allowed in designated areas, and facilities include a modern shower block, washing-up sinks and phone-charging points, all powered partly by the estate's own hydro and solar generation.
The estate's tearoom serves scones, soups and sandwiches throughout the day, while an evening bar pours local ales, so there's rarely need to leave for supplies. Rydal Hall's restored formal gardens and grotto are open to wander, and the site sits directly on the path linking Grasmere and Ambleside—useful for walkers wanting to leave the car behind. It's a relaxed, low-key base with genuine walking credentials, open from January through mid-November.

Absolutely INCREDIBLE! The grounds were amazing, very spacious. The facility system was great. Car parks were lovely, and whenever you saw the staff they were so kind. We stayed in a pod, so it was very cosy. It was far away from anyone, so it was quiet. Will DEFINITELY come again. Did the Fairfield Horseshoe, which was pleasant, starting off at Nab Scar, ending in Low Pike. Stunning views. ✨⛰️

Lovslly place, great gardens and surrounding area. In Ambleside so great place to move to and from for the hikers.. with rydal cave and waters very close.. campsite is clean. Had showers, cleaning facility and much more. Including a cafe..

One of the best campsites I’ve stayed at. The grounds are stunning and well kept. The facilities are excellent, modern and clean. The pitch I was on was flat as a pancake and the others looked similar. Great location with a stunning 25 minute lane walk to Ambleside. Lovely isolated pub two minute walk away and a tea room on site. The staff were so friendly and helpful. I can’t recommend Rydal Hall highly enough. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Beautiful site in a very good location. Decent facilities, nice cafe, good walks and more besides. Unfortunately I interpreted the following website description literally and took heed of the site policies (also below): "our tranquil campsite offers the perfect retreat for individuals and families seeking a quiet escape into nature" "Campsite Guidelines: • Peace & Quiet. Our site is a place of tranquillity and natural beauty. To maintain this atmosphere, loud or excessive noise/music is not tolerated at any time. • Responsible Guests Only. We do not accept hen, stag, birthday parties or same sex groups. Group bookings are subject to restrictions during peak times." Well we shared a small field with three different groups and had to listen to them playing loud music from speakers, singing, laughing and joking til midnight (meant to be quiet from 10.30), kids screaming, wood chopping, dogs barking etc. You can get that at campsites that don't claim to be all about peace and tranquility. We paid more for less facilities (there are no electric hookups at this site) because we thought we would get peace and quiet. If you don't mind group noise with your nature, then this is a very nice site.
