Blossom Cottage

Photo: Steven Dunn

Rural Tayside holds Blossom Cottage on a livestock farm down a quiet lane, yet Dundee itself lies only three miles away. The countryside here rolls toward the River Tay, with walking routes starting from the doorstep and leisure facilities—golf, a pool and spa complex—within easy reach. Perth, St Andrews and Carnoustie are all accessible for a day out.

The cottage is a single-storey property arranged around an open-plan living space that takes in the views through full-height windows; a wood burner warms the room through cooler months. Three bedrooms and three bathrooms serve six guests—the first bedroom has a king bed and ensuite shower, the other two each contain zip-and-link single beds. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, the utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer, and an enclosed garden with patio and barbecue opens from the dining area. Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and logs for the burner are included; parking for three cars sits on site. One dog is welcome. Smoking is not permitted inside.

Great house to stay in. However, the garden is neglected and there seems to be problems with wheelie bin collection. Needs some serious TLC However, regarding a previous review - the mattress has been changed and it's brilliant! Best nights sleep in ages (and I've just bought one). Sort the garden and replace blown bulb's and it would get 5*

This was my second holiday at Blossum Cottage. Upon arrival it was immaculate the cleaners had done a fantastic job. It's well equipped too. The reason for 3 stars is the state of the mattresses. They are clean but with springs poking out all over and sunken bits. On our last stay the property owner asked us nicely if we had noticed anything that needed attention on our stay. There were 3 points I raised 2 of which were sorted. The mattresses being the 3rd unfortunately they have not been changed resulting in poor night's sleeps. My mother complained to me of bad night's sleeps due to this also. My parents were in the room at the end of the hall with the en-suite and myself and my wife were in the last room on the left. It saddens me to have to leave anything other than a 5 star review as the property is lovely only let down by the owner cheaping out on replacing broken mattresses but for £1200 for a weeks stay I expect better from the quality of the beds.
