The Swimming Pool Retreat

The Swimming Pool Retreat sits within Slindon Wood, a 1400-hectare National Trust estate in the South Downs. The village of Slindon itself, a mile away, has resisted unnecessary change and retains its traditional character. Over 30 miles of rights of way cross the grounds, including stretches of Stane Street, the Roman road from London to Chichester, which offers particularly scenic woodland walks up to Bignor on the South Downs Way.

This is a ground-floor property for two people only, with one bedroom, one bathroom, and a separate toilet. The open-plan living space combines kitchen, dining area and sitting room, where a 50" Smart TV is provided. The kitchen has basic cooking facilities: a two-ring hob and microwave. The bedroom contains a double bed and another TV. What makes it distinctive is the private indoor swimming pool—9.3 metres by 4.3 metres, lined with individual mosaic tiles and surrounded by Brazilian slate—which occupies much of the grounds. A small decked patio with outdoor furniture sits outside. The property maintains a controlled temperature throughout the year. Electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included; parking is allocated.

Goodwood (for the Festival of Speed and Revival) and Chichester Festival Theatre are both within reach. The property does not accept children, and is available for stays of up to six nights only.
