About Ty'r Graig Castle
Built in 1892 for the gunmaker W.W. Greener, Ty'r Graig Castle is a genuine cliff-top curiosity - a gothic Victorian mansion designed, according to local lore, to echo the shape of a double-barrelled shotgun. It stands some 200 feet above Barmouth with uninterrupted views over Cardigan Bay, and its stained glass, wood-panelled hallways and turret rooms have been kept largely intact.
The eleven en-suite bedrooms are individually decorated, ranging from standard doubles to circular turret rooms with panoramic sea views, and each keeps period character alongside modern comforts. The restaurant makes a feature of its position, serving traditional British and Welsh dishes in a dining room that looks straight out over the bay, with an extensive wine list to match.
Free parking and a genuinely quiet, elevated setting make this a good choice for anyone who wants Barmouth's views without being in the thick of the seafront crowds, while remaining under a mile from the harbour, beach and railway station.

Excellent place to stay , the hosts are amazing Judy & Mike cannot do enough for you ! The breakfast is cooked really well with plenty of tea & coffee, cereals, toast and jams , fruit juice. we sat with a glass of wine outside in the afternoon and was offered an umbrella straight away as it was the heatwave the views are nice of the beach . The rooms are clean with a comfy bed nice hot shower plenty of plugs around the room ,as it looks like a castle with interesting history (look it up ) would i stay again yes 💯 taxi companies are very reliable if you want to venture out of an evening 😀

Tyr Graig Castle was a beautiful little find. Trudy the owner was an amazing host, very friendly and accommodating and Mike makes an amazing breakfast. Our room was in a Turret with a gorgeous view, it was clean and tidy. We will definitely be back as the building alone was beautiful, It was old and had lots of character, and very well kept. But Trudy and Mike made us feel most welcome in their home.

If you love history this one’s for you. If you like Peaky Blinders you will probably love it as well. It’s a castle on a hill overlooking Barmouth beach. What a view. It was built in the 1800’s by a Shotgun manufacturer from Birmingham who broke down in his car and while waiting for a mechanic his wife fell in love with the view. So he built her a castle and shaped it like a shotgun. See the photo.
