What visitors say
Bolsover Castle is a great property run by English heritage,in the village of Bolsover in Derbyshire, full of history and some very quirky rooms. The main castle is now a ruin but still a great place, the views are stunning. There is a riding school there, where they used to train their horses. The little castle is still fully intact, the rooms are lovely, very different from other properties I've visited, I was told it was mainly used for entertainment and fun. One of the unique things about it is almost each room has an 'on suite'. The Star room and the room of senses were two of my particular favourites. There are also castles walls you can walk along - again spectacular views. There is a children's play area. A very nice cafe. A second hand book shop. A gift shop. And plenty of toilet facilities, including baby change and disabled toilets. The car parking is close to the site. And there is a Wetherspoons next door.

Had the luck of visiting Bolsover Castle with friends on a gorgeous, sunny day off. Everything about the castle is beautiful—especially the stables, the exquisite ceiling paintings, and the scenic views over the surrounding countryside and villages. The front garden was also immaculate and wonderfully arranged with colorful flowers. The staff were super friendly and went above and beyond to help us sign up for our English Heritage annual memberships. I really wish I had written down their names to give them a personal mention. A perfect day out! 10/10.

Really beautiful old castle, buildings and riding arena. Great to explore and look around and an interesting place. Decorative fire places in almost every room, pretty windows, ceilings, walls and tapestries. Fun for kids, with a very good dressing up box for to put on costumes and sit on a wooden horse for a photo opportunity. Activity sheet for kids to find letters in the grounds. It's a bit windy up on the hill, but the views are magnificent, you can see for miles. We struggled a bit for parking and ended up parking on the hill, but most of the parking is free. The cafe at the castle did quite small portions and it was quite expensive. Everything was on disposable plates and in disposable cups, where as other English Heritage places have been on proper plates and in proper cups, it just isn't as nice as other types of cafes.

To much history to list here but this place started out as a motte and bailey castle and then became the grand house you see today. English Heritage property so free to enter if you are a member, there are toilets and a nice cafe with seating inside and outside.
