About The Mount Rooms

A restaurant and bar sit at the heart of The Mount Rooms in Barry, alongside breakfast service each morning, so there's little need to venture out for a decent meal. Outdoor seating gives an extra option for a drink, and the on-site kitchen makes it a straightforward base whether you're passing through or staying a while.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, and family and accessible options are available, with drinks in room and free WiFi throughout. The property is generally kept clean and the staff are consistently described as friendly and attentive, though some rooms have been reported as tired and the beds not always comfortable. A lift serves the upper floors, and there's a gym, spa and sauna for guests wanting to unwind, plus meeting rooms and a bridal suite for events and weddings.

Free on-site parking makes arriving easy, and Barry itself is a short distance away, with Weston Seaquarium nearby as a point of interest. The surrounding area also offers walking and cycling routes, golf, fishing, watersports, and a choice of pubs and restaurants within easy reach.

The hotel was budget and very clean. For the three nights, we paid £170 and we got what we expected for that. Everything was nice and tidy. Location was perfect and the room offered a really nice view over Barry! The only downside to the rooms were the bathroom lights were quite hard to see and out of the 5 on the wall, only one worked. We didn't complain however as it didn't bother us too much and we only saw the hotel as a place to crash after our outings. Other than that, it was nice and comfortable. The staff were amazing, super friendly and helpful. We asked any questions and they were answered immediately, even before arrival. The staff really did go out of their way and even made a good conversation. One thing to note was the advertisement of the gym. The gym was there and open but it is not really included in the hotel and is privately owned. Trying to get a hold of the gym owner was nearly impossible so we gave up and went down the road to one nearby, which was fine but just a heads up that it is unlikely you will be able to get access to the gym. This isn’t the fault of the hotels exactly however.

The staff were all amazing, they were there for whatever you needed and happy to help. The place was very well located, close to the train station and with beautiful views over Barry. The room was very good for the price, tho it lacked some basics (like a bin on the bathroom), and it was in need of a retouch. I'm fact, the whole place, while clean, needed a small refurbishment. It was sad that at the time of the stay they couldn't serve breakfast on the beautiful room they had at the front of the hotel. Maybe next time

Look. I paid 35 quid for a small double room. Sure, the mattress wasn't great and the room was a little rickety and basic. But the bedding was clean and the staff were friendly and nice. What do you want for 35 quid? In my book, good value for money.

No happy at in the end, we originally booked a 2 night stay through phone call but never received any confirmation so my husband phoned on three separate occasions to tell them we still hadn’t received any email confirmation but was told every time that it was all booked in for the 2 night. We arrived on day one and the staff was friendly and accommodated us with extra pillows and fans etc so can’t fault them for there hospitality but the next morning we noticed that they had only taken payment for one night and as we was about to go out and spend the day on the beach my husband thought he had better check again that we was booked in for the second night to then be told ‘no’ and was only booked for 1 night. We kindly spoke with the staff and they looked into it but were not very helpful saying the booking was only for the 1 night. We explained we had rang on numerous occasions to check our booking to be told every time we was booked in for the 2 nights but in the end wasn’t helpful so we had to quickly pack up and travel home early, unfortunately very disappointed and very upset as this ruined our plans for the next few days as we had a table booked at the farmers dog on the third day we was supposed to be travelling back which we ended up cancelling…..
