About The Knife and Cleaver
The Knife and Cleaver builds its reputation on the kitchen first and the bedrooms second. The restaurant turns out generous Sunday roasts and homemade pies, with enough variety on the menu to satisfy most tastes, while the bar offers a relaxed spot for a drink before or after eating. Staff are friendly and attentive, giving the place a genuinely welcoming feel, though service can occasionally feel a little disorganised when things get busy.
Beyond the food, the property has nine en-suite rooms, all straightforward and comfortable, with breakfast included to start the day. Free WiFi, accessible rooms, and a garden round out the practical side, and there's free on-site parking for anyone arriving by car. A 24 hour reception and luggage storage make it easy to come and go, and meeting rooms are available for those combining a stay with work.
Set on The Grove in Bedford, the pub is within easy reach of the town centre, with other restaurants and entertainment nearby for anyone wanting to explore further afield. Pets are welcome too, making it a practical base for a night away with a dog in tow.

What guests say
We recently hosted my dad’s 60th birthday at The Knife & Cleaver and I honestly couldn’t recommend them enough. From start to finish, the whole experience was seamless. The team were so accommodating in the lead up to the event, helping us organise everything and making sure all the details were covered. On the day itself, the staff were incredible. Attentive, friendly, and genuinely invested in making sure we had the best time. The food was absolutely spot on, and everything ran so smoothly which allowed us to actually relax and enjoy the celebration. Nothing felt like too much trouble, and the atmosphere they created made the night really special for my dad and all of our guests. Thank you to the entire team for hosting such a memorable evening. We’ll definitely be back.

Visited the restaurant for early evening meal. From the minute we walked in the door all staff were very welcoming and helpful. Food was wonderful and a good choice through all courses. Maybe sharper knifes and small spoons for Eton Mess so can get the sauce out at the bottom (didn’t want to waste any as was scrumptious)

Excellent welcome, food and service. We didn't feel rushed. The food was delicious and very well cooked and presented. The servers were polite and attentive. We were just there for dining so can't comment on the accommodation.

The pub was lovely with friendly staff and excellent facilities. The bedroom provided the basics but needs some tlc. The iron was missing and despite the tv being a perfect size had only a couple of channels available. The room was clean but needs an upgrade- particularly the bathroom. The breakfast was good and very filling. It suited us for one night.
