My husband and I had an enjoyable day out at Lyme Park. We did the "Behind the scenes tour" with a volunteer guide called Nick, who was funny and made the tour interesting. "Thank you Nick." For the rest of the house there were guides in every room who were knowledgeable. Nothing is chained off in the rooms so you can walk around freely as long as you don't touch the furniture etc. As it was about 29 degrees we didn't fancy dressing up or walking the larger park area. We did the lake walk, saw the gardens near the house and the orangery. We manay to walk to the cage later in the day. It was still scorching hot but as it was a clear day the views were fantastic. We are in the Ale House cafe for lunch. Disappointingly at 1.15 there were only two items left for a cold lunch. You could order hot food but we didn't want hot as the weather was so warm. There is another cafe outside serving pizza and other items but we decided to go with the indoor cafe offering that was left too save time. My husband had a hot cheese toastie and I had the veggie wrap. Both were very good. All in all a good day out. We could have spent longer here walking there grounds if it wasn't so hot.

Brilliant day out… well thought out presentation of this historic house. Plenty to see and do including dressing up in Regency style! Peaceful garden with deck chairs if the weather allows and probably the best, friendliest staff I’ve ever encountered. Well done everyone. Highly recommended.

National Trust Lyme is one of those places that instantly puts you in a good mood. The walking trails are beautiful, varied, and perfect whether you want a gentle stroll or a longer wander through nature. The house itself is genuinely impressive, full of character and history, and the whole estate has a calm, welcoming vibe that makes it easy to spend hours exploring. A brilliant place to visit and one I’d happily return to.

A real treat. Layers of history from its beginnings as a mediaeval hunting lodge to the impressive building that was passed to the NT in 1946. Many Elizabethan features are visible and Thomas Legh’s life is well documented as his story leads visitors through the house to enable all to envisage what life was like for the inhabitants of Lyme during the early 19th century. If you arrive early enough you might be lucky to join a tour around the servants’ room which are generally behind the scenes which was very informative especially with respect to Mr Truelove the butler and Mrs Campbell the housekeeper. Plenty of people enjoyed dressing up in regency costumes, too. Overall, the team of staff were very friendly and helpful once I arrived in the main reception area both in the car park, shop and in the main building and most staff are clearly keen to make a visit to Lyme extra special. Lyme Park is definitely worth a visit and do allow plenty of time to enjoy all it has to offer.
