Elm Beds sits tucked beside the Macclesfield Canal at Poynton, where the Cheshire plain meets the first folds of the Peak District. Step straight from the site onto the towpath for flat, sheltered miles in either direction, or pick up the Middlewood Way—a former railway line now open to walkers and cyclists—linking Macclesfield with Marple. The park feels refreshingly old-fashioned: around 22 pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, electric hook-ups, a straightforward sanitary block and laundry facilities, but no shop, pool or playground. Stock up in Poynton village beforehand.
The real draw is flexibility. Lyme Park's deer-filled grounds and Palladian house are a short drive uphill; the moors above Whaley Bridge lie within twenty minutes. Yet Middlewood and Poynton stations are walkable, and the 191 bus runs into Manchester, making a car-free city day entirely practical from a rural pitch. Some guests mention facilities can feel a little tired in places, but for walkers, cyclists or anyone wanting quiet access in two directions, it's hard to fault the location.

Ideally located for canal walks. Pitch has good with 2 rows of paving flags making parking easy. As others have mentioned access is tight, road is bumpy, but we were quite happy once we were parked up!

Camped here recently with my daughter and really enjoyed our stay. Very friendly and helpful owners. It's a very peaceful and quiet site. Facilities were well kept, clean and smelling fresh. Next to the canal and also a few minutes away from the middlewood way. There's also a small park at the end of the road.

Right next to the canal. Access to the tow path ,great for cycling,dog walking. Site wonderfully kept, with clean toilets and showers. Restful, quiet and suitable gor all ages. Caravans a good distance apart, with seasonal, static and touring areas.

It's incredibly basic. And a bit scruffy. Has several permanent residents. Not the place to take the kids for a getaway.
