What visitors say
We went here earlier on a nice sunny day (rare for March lol). We took a long, relaxing walk through the park & enjoyed every bit of it. We sat on a bench next to one of the lakes & enjoyed fresh air, peaceful atmosphere, and scenic views. There are coffee shops around , ideal for taking a short break and enjoying a treat. Lots of benches under shady trees available to sit in summer days. It is a well maintained park that is clean and lovely to walk round. Would definitely recommend visiting here fun for all ages.

Cannon Hill Park is basically Brum’s back garden on a sunny weekend and you can feel the energy the second you walk in — swan boats bobbing about on the lake, kids charging around the playground, and about fifty different football games happening at once 🦢⚽ It’s huge enough that you can usually carve out your own patch of grass, though, whether you’re here for a lazy picnic or trying to get a lap around the lake without stopping (good luck with that hill by the MAC!) 🏃♂️🍃 The Midlands Arts Centre tucked in the corner is a proper gem too — great for catching an exhibition or just grabbing a coffee when the weather turns 🎨☕ Sure, it gets rammed when the sun’s out and parking can be an absolute nightmare, but there’s something brilliant about having this much green space so close to the city centre 🌳🚗 Between the mini golf, the tennis courts, and those pedal boats, it’s the kind of place where an afternoon disappears before you’ve even checked your watch ⛳🕰️

Great place to do many different activities, from paddle boating, running, cycling, mini golf, playing tennis, people watching, walking or just relaxing and catching the sun rays. The vibe is great and the social togetherness is amazing!!

I visited the park with my family on a Bank holiday. It was sunny (hot - over 30 degrees) and therefore crowded. Canon Hill Park is one of those rare city parks that actually lives up to the hype. It’s 250 acres of well-kept green space, and there’s genuinely something here for everyone. What I loved: • Variety: You’ve got two lakes with swans and ducks, formal flower gardens, wide open fields, woodland walks, and the River Rea running through. You can go from a peaceful stroll to a busy Saturday vibe in about 5 minutes. • For families: The playground is massive and recently updated. Plus there’s mini golf, pedalos on the lake in summer, and MAC - the Midlands Arts Centre - right in the middle for exhibitions, theatre, and a decent café. • For exercise: The 2km circular path around the park is flat, paved, and perfect for running, cycling, or prams. Lots of people use it for parkruns and bootcamps. • Food & drink: MAC’s terrace café is great for coffee and cake with a view of the lake. There are also ice cream vans and kiosks dotted around when the weather’s good. • Wildlife: Between the herons, squirrels, and the conservation area, it doesn’t feel like you’re 2 miles from Birmingham city centre. Minor downsides: • Parking: Can be a nightmare on sunny weekends. The car park fills fast and £3.50 for 2 hours adds up. Use public transport if you can - University and Selly Oak stations are both a 15-min walk. • Crowds: It’s popular for a reason. If you want quiet, come early morning on weekdays. Weekends get packed, especially around the playground and MAC. • Toilets: There are a few, but closed. It was a hassle for me to take my kids outside. Bottom line: Whether you want to feed ducks, catch a film at MAC, run 5k, or just sit with a book under a tree, Canon Hill Park delivers. It’s well-maintained, safe, and has kept its charm despite being Birmingham’s busiest park. One of the best urban parks in the UK, honestly. Best time to visit: Any time. Summers are great. Spring for the daffodils and cherry blossoms, or a crisp autumn morning when the leaves turn.
