About Madeira Hotel

Bunbury Road in Northfield sets a quiet, residential tone for the Madeira Hotel, a straightforward base on the southern edge of Birmingham away from the bustle of the city centre. It's an adults-only property, which keeps things calm, and free on-site parking makes it an easy option for anyone arriving by car.

Rooms are simply furnished with en-suite bathrooms, free WiFi and drinks available to guests, with a 24-hour reception covering arrivals at any hour. Mornings start with a continental breakfast, and while the styling is unfussy rather than plush, everything needed for a short stay is in place.

Nearby you'll find a pub or bar, a restaurant and other eateries, along with a golf course and entertainment options within easy reach for those looking to fill an evening or afternoon. It suits travellers after a no-frills, well-located place to sleep rather than a destination in itself.

The place was clean albeit very dated. The hallway did smell musty on entering the property. My room (3) had an emergency light on all night and as such a tiny room, the emergency light was very bright. The breakfast was only cereal, fruit juice and yoghurt. There was no bread to do any toast. Disappointed as no toast. I found it quite odd that I never actually saw anyone in the time I was there. I heard footsteps as creaking stairs and expected to see someone at breakfast or even the hosts, but no one. Was a little spooky really. Was a place to stay. Would rather stay a Premier Inn or Travelodge.

I have stayed in more modern hotels but at the end of the day a hotel room is just a place where you can rest and sleep. My room was clean, tidy warm and comfortable. Breakfast was satisfactory too. I was pleased with my stay at the Madeira.

As a female traveling alone (other half in ROH) I was a bit worried on arrival, but I needn't have been, room quiet, clean and had no difficulty parking. Room had a recently updated ensuite. Corridors a bit tired in places but very happy with room and offers excellent value for money

This is a very basic hotel. Everything works, it's very clean and safe. But there are no frills and not much comfort. Reception is unmanned. Breakfast is minimal.
