About The Station Inn
A lively on-site bar is the first thing people mention about The Station Inn, a straightforward hotel on Station Road in Birmingham. It's the kind of place where the atmosphere downstairs does a lot of the work, with staff generally praised for being approachable even when the building itself shows its age.
Rooms are simple and functional rather than stylish, with family rooms available and drinks available to bring up from the bar. Some rooms have been reported as poorly maintained, and service can be inconsistent, so this suits guests after a no-frills base rather than a polished stay. Free WiFi and 24 hour reception cover the basics, and there's a restaurant on site alongside outdoor seating for warmer evenings.
Free on-site parking makes arriving by car straightforward, and pets are welcome too. The surrounding area has a golf course, entertainment, and further pubs, bars and restaurants within reach, making it a workable base for exploring Birmingham without expecting luxury. Value for money is the property's clearest strength.
What guests say
DO NOT BOOK HERE WOULD LEAVE 0 STARS IF POSSIBLE, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! This place should be closed down. We booked The Station Inn for four of our engineers while they were working away. After the experience our first three had, we cancelled the fourth booking because we simply could not justify sending another member of staff there. The room was in an unacceptable condition from the moment they arrived. There was a strong smell of faeces, visible mould in the shower, and, by the following morning, they had woken up covered in bites. The bites were shown to the hotel at the time, and although we were told they were supposedly not bedbugs but ticks, that is hardly a reassuring explanation. Either way, our employees were bitten whilst staying at the hotel, which is completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, the area outside the hotel felt unsafe. Our engineers were approached and offered drugs at around 9:30–10:00pm, and they also witnessed what appeared to be a confrontation between a member of the bar staff and a customer that looked close to becoming physical. After returning, we looked at the TripAdvisor reviews and were alarmed to see multiple guests reporting similar issues relating to bedbugs. Had we seen these reviews beforehand, we would never have booked. We contacted the hotel in the hope of resolving the matter amicably by requesting a refund. Unfortunately, rather than taking our concerns seriously, the hotel has refused to cooperate, leaving us with no option but to dispute the payment through our bank and consider further legal action. We would strongly advise anyone considering staying here to read the recent reviews carefully before making a booking. Based on our experience, we certainly will not be returning.

Never in my life have I walked into a hotel room and walked back out. I thought the bad reviews were over exaggerating but nope. Area is horrific, Was asked for a £50 security deposit (if the info was on the website I wouldn’t have been bothered but I saw nothing about it), stains, mould, silver fish. I was also given a key to a room that was already taken (the guest in the room was not happy which i understand). The smell in the hall way was revolting, TV had a time limit of 4 mins each time it was turned on, wipes on the stairs to the rooms. Honestly stayed for about 20minutes then got a taxi back home! Walking through the pub to get to the reception was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever experienced. I genuinely went to this hotel open minded but my goodness.

the staff at this place is really lovely and made me feel very welcome! you also can’t hear the pub from the rooms which is very impressive! the beds were also very comfortable and warm. unfortunately the rooms were quite dirty with some holes in the wall and very dirty/stained box beds. my room had a very very strong cigarette smoke smell, and my shower door was coming off its rail. there was also a presence of silverfish in the bathroom and a few bugs throughout the room. if the standard of the rooms increased this would be a stellar hotel with the lovely staff but as is i don’t recommend staying here.
